if you're willing, do you have any info about your forces rewrite youre willing to share? any particular concepts you want to emphasize, cut, reform - even rewrite entirely? im super interested in your vision and how you adapt from all forms of sonic media.

(i feel like you referenced that in your GORGEOUS "the patches don't quite fit together" fic - tails' finalchap message, saying that the specifics of how each version of sonic+tails met is ultimately less important than the fact that they ALWAYS meet and form an unbreakable bond.)

but i digress!! based on what we've seen so far of your forces rewrite / what we can infer from your post-forces and post-frontiers works... its going to hurt. im ready!!!!!!!!!!! im so ready!!!!!!!!!!

either way, i also want to say im obsessed with your writing, theyre no doubt some of my favorite treasures of this community. i cant thank you enough for your contributions. also, youre just a really neat and kind person, and it shows in your comments/asks/etc. very cool very cool :)

I'm so willing to share stuff about Forces fic!! It's constantly spinning in my brain and I want to write it so much and talk about it with everyone. I want it to be out there so you can all finally experience what has been eating away at my sanity for the past three years, lol.

Unfortunately, I don't want to give away too much out of context, because I know it'll just be that much more impactful to experience things in the moment, you know? But I can definitely temper some expectations since I'm not following the plot of Forces to the letter.

One major difference is the connection to Sonic Mania. I've played Sonic Mania and I really like it as a standalone game, but connecting those events to Forces via the Phantom Ruby doesn't make much sense to me, personally. Or, at least, isn't really a story I want to explore in more depth. So all the things that happened in Mania that brought the two timelines together didn't happen in my retelling.

However, the reason I decided to rewrite my own version of Forces in the first place is this specific line from A Birth Certificate is Just a Receipt:

"But that's not possible! I'm never gonna be the same age as you at the same time!"

So make of that what you will~

I'm also disregarding the Shadow DLC for Forces. That's something else that just doesn't feel compelling to me from a narrative perspective. I've already changed it so that the Jackal Squad were used as experiments rather than Eggman's hired guards, so Shadow didn't massacre them all anyway. I've got other plans for Shadow's involvement during those six months that I'm both terrified and really excited to play with. I'm always really nervous incorporating Shadow into anything (he's one of the three reasons the third chapter of Not by a Long Shot isn't out yet, lol, the other two are work-related), but I hope that people will still enjoy what I have planned for his role in the story!

A lot of what's in the game is being rewritten completely to suit the story I want to tell. I think Forces as a concept is really interesting, but the execution didn't land for me in its story or stakes. Some plot beats will be very similar, but a lot of it is just stuff I made up because I thought it'd be fun xD and painful :')

And I did reference a major plot point in my latest fic, yeah xD I don't think I've openly talked about it on here specifically, so it could be easy to miss. It felt weird referencing things that haven't played out yet and aren't the same as the games, but here's hoping we get there eventually! (btw, I'm so happy you liked Patches! I'm very proud of how that fic turned out, especially that last chapter, so thank you for calling it gorgeous!! <3)

Okay, so.

Sonic gets killedcaptured by Eggman, Tails goes MIA, Rouge finds out Sonic is alive on the Death Egg, they rescue him, yadda yadda, we all know the drill.

And of course, once Sonic is free he's looking for his little brother. He's not there, but his friends tell him he's just been over somewhere else, doing his best to help and no, he can't contact him right now because he's spying/going undercover whatever and him calling Tails would jeopardize the mission and of course he wants to talk to him but he understands it's important and it's not like they would lie to him, especially right after escaping Eggman, riGhT?

Well, fast forward to the final battle.

Of course, Sonic is still kind antsy because he still haven't seen Tails and they keep telling him Tails is still on the mission whenever he asks and then he gets pulled into helping the Resistance and the thought kinda slips his mind with everything going on and plot twists happening at every occasion (Chaos, Shadow, Metal and Zavok weren't real but clones created by Infinite? like, who would have guessed!) and before he knows it the Resistance is making their final stand, Infinite defeated, Mobius saved from being burnt-slash-hit by the sun and if only they could find Eggman-

Suddenly a huge hologram of the man himself appears on the sky. Figures he turned tail and ran like a coward he was, probably only appearing for his usual "you might have won this time, but next time it'll be my victory" routine.

But Sonic isn't ready for what the man says. He is ready, when Eggman's hologram switches to a video recording. He's not ready when he sees Tails, his little brother. Bloodied. Bruised. Fur stuck together, some patches missing entirely. Forced to his knees. Shock collar clipped around his neck. Arms, legs, even his tails chained together so he wouldn't escape.

Amy lets out a strangled gasp behind Sonic and he turns, staring right at her. In her eyes, in all of his friends' eyes he can see it.

They knew. They knew and they have been lying to him.

Maybe they didn't know Eggman had him, the shock and terror is genuine, but they fucking knew Tails wasn't with them. They knew he was missing and they didn't do anything!

"Your turn, Sonic," Eggman says, his hologram once more switching with the recording, but it doesn't take away the image of his little brother broken by the same man now staring down at him.

Sonic looks up at the hologram, flames burning in his eyes. He's gonna find him. He's gonna drag the man from whatever hole he buried himself in this time and he's going to make damn sure he never tries to mess with his family again!

An Introduction

Are you someone who was frustrated with Forces for its writing and characterization? Are you someone who wants to see the concepts presented in the game fully realized? Do you want to see more character development, more cutscenes, and more stages? Or, are you simply someone curious to see a completely different take on Forces just to see where it leads?

Well, hello everybody and welcome to a new beginning!

It is with excitement that I announce that this is the start of a project that I have been considering for the past couple of months. Sonic Forces: Redux has begun as a small writing project on the side and will likely continue to be so, but it is slowly escalating in scale in my own brain, so here we are.

Sonic Forces: Redux will be a complete rewrite and reconstruction of Sonic Forces that works off of the original framework provided to become something grander. This blog will be dedicated to any writing, art, or loose concepts in general tied to the project. I will be posting concept art for this new version of the game, full script style rewrites of cutscenes, and various other tidbits such as informational posts on new aspects such as hub worlds and added stages. This is a one man effort, however, so please be patient! This may begin as a bit of a messy collection of ideas while it remains in the brainstorming part of the process, but as things are set and put in place it will become more streamlined.

Most memorable scene for me:

In your Forces rewrite when Metal has Tails by the throat and he hears Sonic begging "please" and that moment right after when Sonic is just limp on the ground after getting crushed i was just 😱😱

And when Knuckles finds them and cries after failing to revive Sonic, calling him and Tails his Tribe 😭😭😭

I'm really proud of how those two chapters came together, being so action-heavy and still trying to keep the weight of the emotional turmoil these guys are going through. Especially that Knuckles moment, because it came out of nowhere for me. I cried harder when I wrote that then I did when Sonic and Tails were getting beat up, lol. I'm so happy it made an impact for you, it really means so much <3

Snippet from ch. 4 of "the one where Tails says 'fuck'":

Shortly after the war started, they’d tried to make contact with all their friends, leaving open invitations for them to join them in Central City if they didn’t have somewhere safe to go. 

But there was one friend who didn’t have the tech to make contact with, though not for a lack of trying over the years. 

Knuckles went with Tails to check on Big in the Mystic Ruins jungle. While Eggman’s forces hadn’t been reported in the area at the time, they hadn’t wanted to leave him on his own out in the jungle, off the grid and without any knowledge of the world falling apart around them. Not when he got all his updates from Tails whenever he stopped by to visit. Tails wasn’t going to leave him and Froggy defenseless. He refused.

“You don’t think Froggy and I will be safe here?” Big had asked, welcoming the two of them into his hut.

“We can’t say for sure yet,” Knuckles replied. “We’re just taking precautions for now. Banding together to fortify our numbers while we come up with a plan to stop Eggman.”

“No one ever bothers us here.” Big considered his small, homey hut, filled with the warm, earthy scent of a fish stew simmering on the fire while Froggy napped in the extra large hammock by the window. 

“Please, Big,” Tails placed his hand on his arm. “I can’t leave anyone else behind.”

That was all it took. “Okay. Froggy and I will pack our things after dinner.”

Just wanted to give a little update on fics and such since it's been a minute.

I said a couple months back that I was aiming to start posting my Forces rewrite fic in July, but that was before I had a bit of a health concern pop up over the last weekend of May. I pretty much lost all of June to recovering and I've still got a ways to go. It's a chronic pain thing that I'm working with a doctor to treat, but being in pain and medicated has made it very difficult to focus on writing for more than a few minutes at a time. I'm honestly surprised and impressed I finished my latest one shot as quickly as I did, lol.

Anyway, I wanted to provide some context for why I'm probably not going to start posting the Forces fic this month. I need to focus on recovering and also this fic has so many moving parts, I want to be sure the writing is solid throughout the chapters before putting it out in the world. It doesn't mean there won't be any fics this month, just not that one. Which I'm really sad about because I want to share it with you all! It's still coming along, just very, very slowly.
