this ask is it give you a reason to yap about music becauee for some reason i have not asked about what music you like yet
oh my god so to preface i’ll listen to pretty much everything
i was RAISED on bubblegum pop and then like the weird niche of rock music my dad exists in (no offense father, your taste just has lots of variety)(i say this as if my parents are on tumblr, they’re not (thank god))
and so from that i kept like Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Tove Lo, Halsey, and the like (i’m sure there’s more but that’s all i can think of rn)
then from my dad (and also my best friend, they have weirdly similar tastes) i inherited like Fall Out Boy, Cage The Elephant, The Neighbourhood, Muse, The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, and Two Door Cinema Club (we’re gonna come back to those last two)
and then from both i got a mix of 80’s shi which includes two of my all-time favorites: Prince and Duran Duran. along with like Journey, Madonna, Bon Jovi, Van Halen (and some other random songs here and there. also shout out Stranger Things you’ve also slightly informed my 80s taste)
then from like movies/tv i stumbled across Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks—MY QUEEN— (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Linkin Park (Michael Bay Transformers), and like the whole Heartstopper Season 1 soundtrack
and in high school i got really into RnB—The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, Dominic Fike—and rap—Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Baby Keem, and Childish Gambino
but LATELY i’ve been messing with some like indie folk and indie rock. obviously i know the big names like Hozier, Noah Kahan, AM (told you they’d be back), and Florence + The Machine. but then i get like progressively nicher: Bon Iver, i guess Gracie Abrams and Olivia Dean kinda fit here(? they’re also kinda pop idrk or care LOL), Tame Impala, Johnny Orlando, Of Monsters and Men, Phoebe Bridgers, Gigi Perez, Julia Wolf (high functioning “In My Room” relater), Samia (Pool - Stripped makes me cry EVERY TIME), Two Door Cinema Club, a couple Ethel Cain songs, SIØBHAN (shout out The Quarry omfg), Liv Romano, Alan Fiore, and Florence Road, but my RIDE OR DIES i’ll throw hands for are Foreign Homes and Fosket (i think that’s the stage name he’s using now). they both have relatively small discographies FH only has 5 songs on spotify and Fosket has one but omfg they’re SO GOOD.
