Sharing this here cause technically I did do a lot of writing for this project.

I researched, wrote, filmed, edited, and made (English) subtitles for this 47-minute-long video essay. It’s a massive analysis on Ainosuke Shindo/Adam from Sk8 the Infinity and the way he interacts and impacts with other characters. It was definitely a labor of love and hyper-fixation and, from start to finish, making it took about two weeks. I would greatly appreciate you guys checking it out, especially if you follow me for my fics.

I was a competitive speech kid in high school that had to stop after only a year due to several factors, most of all a cross-country move right before the pandemic my sophomore year. Writing and filming this felt like I was tournament-prepping and giving speeches again. When I was writing it, I legit had to stand up at one point and read part of it out in front of a wall because that felt the most familiar to me (if you did competitive speech/“forensics”, you definitely know).

Feedback on my sandwich speech from a judge

Okay, so my school's speech team is pretty new. We used to have a really good program, didn't have a team for three years, and just restarted last year. Even though our coach wasn't the best, she genuinely tried and would schedule plenty of practices and meets. But she left, and now we have a new coach. We've only had three meets so far this year, and our most recent one was December 1. We're not going to have any more meets until mid-February, two weeks before sectionals. I really want to try a new poetry program, but I don't want to go to sectionals with only two weeks of actual practice and critique with the piece. Also, we only get group practice on Mondays from 3:30-4:00. Even though we have a small team (6 people) and I'm the only one doing more than one event, that's not nearly enough time to actually run through everyone's pieces and exchange good critiques. Most of the team has only gone to 1 or 2 meets. The other captain and I are the only ones who have gone to all three. Everyone is woefully unprepared. Our coach can't give good critique to save her life, and we're dying.

Like sure, I can practice after track and homework and all that, but I need fresh critiques so I can keep fine-tuning. How do I go from almost picket-fencing early in the season to barely staying in the top ten? Because I never get practice and critiques. By sectionals, we'll have gone over two and a half months of no meets. I have the most experience and am the most prepared on the team. If I'm dying right now, how will the mostly novice team fare? Not well.

I don't know what to do. The coach seems more focused on getting us beanies and pizza than practice and meets, and she won't let other people take us to meets. It's getting so frustrating, and I don't know what to do.

I miss speech so much right now.

I miss the friends, and the sense of accomplishment you feel after walking out of a round knowing you crushed it. I miss having to glance around that there aren't any judges or coaches around before complaining about everything and everyone. I miss the really nice competitors who genuinely want to wish luck to everyone and not just show off to the judges. I miss the sense of relief when your biggest competition didn't come. I miss the ribbons and the waiting 14 hours to eat so you're not queasy. I even miss the OPs I would pay to never hear again and the endless rounds of poetry where 4 out of 6 are about eating disorders. I miss coming home and crashing 30 minutes later. I miss the competitive spirit between friends in the same category. I miss sitting on the freezing vinyl of a too-small school bus while waiting for the rest of the team to hurry. I miss skipping track practice because state is in March. I miss the rounds the rounds where everyone is double- or triple-entered. I miss the loud table of duos at the small invitationals. I miss the meets where opponents realize they would totally be friends with their rival if they went to the same school. I miss making funny faces at your friends during practice to see if they would crack in front of the coach. I miss secretly thinking our critiques were pointless and the coach was wrong, then ranting to your speech friend over the phone the night before a big meet. I can't wait for speech season to start again.
