Get Yourself to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking the Discovery Trail and taking in views of the ancient bristlecone pines in this portion of the Schulman Grove and Inyo National Forest. The view is looking to the southwest with a distant view of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

A Long and Winding Road Leads Me to the Mountains by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the southwest while taking in views across open mountain plain while walking the Discovery Trail in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest of the Inyo National Forest. My thinking in composing this image was to use the White Mountain Road as a leading line into the image with the more distant Sierra Nevada mountains as a far off destination. Having just moved to DxO PhotoLab 5, I decided to use the linear control point to bring out more details in the wildfire haze present in those mountains.
Ancient Bristlecone Pines Along a Mountainside in the Inyo National Forest by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking the Discovery Trail with a view looking to the north across a mountainside in the White Mountains. This location is in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest of the Inyo National Forest. My thinking in composing this image was to bring those trees more or less into the image center. There would then be some nearby foreground with the rocks and soil and the backdrop of blue skies above.
Beginning a Personal Photo Assignment in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the north while taking in views across ancient bristlecone pine forest from the parking area at the Schulman Grove. According to peakbagger web site this is looking up Discovery Peak. My thinking in composing this image was to capture the view looking up the mountainside with the woodland setting. The whites of the mountains of the soil and rock would be that color contrast to bring out more the colors of the trees.
In Praise of Things Beautiful (Black & White) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking the Discovery Trail in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest of the Inyo National Forest with a view looking up a mountainside and to the northwest. My thinking in composing this image was to have blue skies as a color contrast backdrop for the earth tones present in the lower portion of the image. I felt that would bring out more of the shapes present in the image captured. I later converted this to black & white using Silver Efex Pro 3 where I made some adjustments to color filters to bring out a much richer tonal contrast for the final image.
