On the 9th day of Christmas, #golf gave to me...The Loop at Forest Dunes, Tom Doak's reversible 18 hole course that is played clockwise one day, then counterclockwise the next day. Novelty of the reversibility aside, The Loop is fairly unique in that all of the mown areas are either fairway or green height,, which makes for incredibly wide playing corridors. The fescue turf is given to firming up and playing fast, which appears to make the ground game very much a part of the course strategy. Unfortunately, all of that space is a false promise of ease, as the general lack of firm aiming targets and all that room make it tougher from the tee than it should be. The real intrigue on The Loop comes from the green complexes. While the fairways are gently rolling, the greens are chocked full of angles and slopes and pitches (to accept shots from multiple angles). They're big, undulating, and big fun. #TheLoop #ForestDunes #golfcoursearchitecture #GolfTrip #walkinggolfer #MichiganGolf (at Forest Dunes Resort) https://www.instagram.com/p/B60sz1aFvEB/?igshid=974rlmh1cmy1
