In episode 7 Yakov said that he designed his students routine to focus on what would have been victors weakness as a skater, based of the performance what do you think those weakness are? Thanks!
Hello! Thanks for your question!
To jog everyone’s memory, Yakov talks about Viktor’s weaknesses with reference to Georgi’s routine. Here’s a screencap of the line mentioned:
On to my traditionally long-winded answer.
We all know that Georgi’s strength is his PCS. He is emotional, his routines are intense and this is definitely something that audiences look out for.
People are interested in his ‘new range of artistic expression’:
In fact, Georgi’s emotions are the only things other people comment on. We rarely see the commentators or even Mila or Yurio comment on his technical elements:
Georgi also has a vivid imagination. Case in point: his inner dialogue throughout both of his routines.
In stark contrast, it seems like everyone is mesmerised by Viktor’s gift of beauty and his technical ability:
etc. And the only noteworthy comments about his PCS components are:
Commentator: “New dimension in his performance.”; and
Minako: “Damn it, Yuuri should be the one skating this routine, not Viktor Nikiforov.”
As pointed out in this post, Viktor Nikiforov Had No Feelings. He knew that technically he should skate with feeling and imagination (“It’s good to have confidence, but this program isn’t where you should show it off,”), but he had been finding excuses - “[Agape] is a feeling, so I could never explain it in words.”
Was his lack of emotion due to a lack of life experiences and a shortage of love in his life? Who knows. Either way, Yakov definitely knows about his life and about his tendency to lack in PCS. His solution? Skate a more complex routine to make up for it.
I hope this answers your question! If anyone has anything to add, head over to our askbox or submit your own meta.
