WHAT IS FOREST KINDERGARTEN?

A forest kindergarten is a type of preschool education for children between the ages of three and six that is held almost exclusively outdoors. Whatever the weather, children are encouraged to play, explore and learn in a forest or natural environment. The adult supervision is meant to assist rather than lead. In German, Forest Kindergarten is called Waldkindergarten. Forest Kindergarten conducts its curriculum within the outdoor environment, whether rain, shine, snow, or sunshine. No matter the circumstances of the conditions of the weather, the children and educators continue on their learning and exploring opportunities embracing the outdoors.
