I have a new transgender headcanon, spoilers under the readmore for the story of the Red Tiger fighting style in the videogame Forestrike.
Summary of Events and Facts
So, the player character of the game is Yu, a martial arts apprentice of numerous different fighting styles at a Monestary. The Red Tiger is likely to be the last style unlocked by him.
The Red Tiger style is only unlocked after liberal use of the secret technique of Yu's Monestary, the Foresight, which lets you see and experience the outcome of events in your mind during meditation.
Once you have used the Foresight enough (beaten the Admiral (final boss) with two different fighting styles), the next time you go to use the Foresight you are transported to a jungle and confronted by a woman called Botun. There you discuss this new fighting style and Yu's motivations and backstory, before using this fighting style in a duel against Botun.
Once Botun has been defeated you return to the Monestary, where you're found meditating in front of pool, instead of Yu's reflection, Botun stares back and can be interacted with.
During the journey using the Foresight and the Red Tiger style, Yu can be found saying he invented the style, despite a possible interpretation of his initial converation with Botun implying she invented it.
Once you beat the Admiral (final boss) in reality mode, where you complete the journey without the Foresight, it is revealed that the Foresight when used excessively can cause people to become consumed and obsessed with whatever it is the Foresight offers them.
If you beat the Admiral (final boss) in reality mode while using the Red Tiger style, it is revealed that the Foresight can cause people to hallucinate and even develop alter egos. Yu will never admit to the existence of Botun.
My Contributing Headcanons
I think Yu finds freedom and power in his use of the Foresight. The freedom to experiment and explore beyond the Monestary, and power within himself.
Yu is a bit of a pushover, he is willing to shape himself into whatever others want him to be. This is why he can master so many different fighting styles.
Yu greatly values his role as apprentice, Forestriker of his Monestary, and defender of the Emporer, so much so that he has nearly forgotten his roots as a country boy. He has sacrificed his personal identity for the role he plays at the Monestary.
The Headcanon
Because Yu has given up his identity, yet yearns to be free and powerful in his own right, I think when he overuses the Foresight he sees his greatest desire, what he would be if he were not bound to Monestary and its Masters, that person is Botun. Yu, if he felt he could choose his identity, would choose to be a woman, roaming the jungle, inventing a completely new and bombastic style of martial arts.
Yu is transgender, yet he is so divorced from his personhood that his mind automatically splits who he wants to be into a different person.
Funny Bits
Also, Yu is a very scruffy guy, he doesn't take care of his appearance, egg behaviour.
If Ogai really wants Yu to join him and his revolution, he just needs to crack Yu's egg and maybe get some fantasy estrogen.
