The Month of September (Sign of Libra) from the ‘Hunts of Charles V’ (circa 1531-1533, Bernard van Orley, Dermoyen workshop). Tapestries as these were some of the most luxurious items of the late 15th and of the 16th century. Made of wool, silk and gold and silver thread, only the most rich and powerful princes could afford to have these made. Despite their often huge dimensions, the one shown here measures 440 x 563 cm, they could be easily moved as the courts of this period were often still itinerant. The scene on the tapestry shows us another deer hunt, this time near the Groenendael Priory in the Soignes Forest, and some courtiers dressed in the ‘haute couture’ of their day. @museelouvre @bozarbrussels #bozar #louvre #chassesdemaximilien #chassesdecharlesquint #huntsofmaximilian #zonienwoud #soignesforest #foretdesoignes #brussel #bruxelles #brussels #tapestry #wandtapijt #vanorley #bernardvanorley #dermoyen (bij BOZAR) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxC4hQklP1k/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1udxnq51gcs8q
