Rewatching Forever again because why the hell not and I gotta say it feels like an early draft of Lucifer. I'm going to assume this is because Ildy Modrovich was a showrunner on both shows and this is in no way to say that Forever is not a polished show or that Lucifer stole anything from it.

In the pilot of both shows the human female detective who is set up as a love interest of the immortal male protagonist is shot at the end of the episode after requesting his help in solving a murder he was at the scene of but survived. After she is shot she sees him get shot too but passes out before she can really find out what happened. She wakes in the hospital to see that he is watching over her. After that they go on to solve crimes (mostly murders) together where the male protagonist uses their supernatural abilities in some way to solve them.

And that's just the pilot.

I also think certain elements that were criticised or just made things more difficult in Forever were changed for Lucifer. For example Henry spends a lot of his time trying to hide the fact that he is immortal and lying to Jo because he is afraid she will find out. Lucifer on the other hand just straight-up tells Chloe he is the devil on multiple occasions and has no worries about being found out. In fact he wants her to know.

Aside from that there are things like the protagonist being a charming British man working in America. Coincidentally both men are also played by Welsh actors.

I love both shows and it's really fun to find connections between them.

If you love or ever like Lucifer I highly recommend you check out Forever. It only has one season but it's soooo good.

Forever Digimon AU

It’s an odd AU idea tied to “Forever” (ya know, the one where James was in one episode) but bare with me since this is WAY different from most Digimon AUs so far.

(OOF!! Hey @catm0rris, I dunno if you’re into Digimon but we kinda got a James reincarnated-ish AU here X3c)

So one day, Henry stumbles across a Digimon V-Pet (They look like this) while on a simple stroll and he finds it odd that a little Tomogatchi toy would just be laying around on the ground. He picks it up and decides to keep the thing because he has no idea where the original owner was. He gets to his home and, out of sheer curiosity, decides to check on the Digimon V-Pet to see what kind of monster this previous owner had, but it turns out that there was only an egg on the screen, meaning that the previous owner didn’t hatch it yet. However, a minute passes and the egg hatches into a Digimon. Henry, still having no idea who owned it before him, decides to keep it. So for three days, he’s been balancing his work and taking care of the Digimon in the V-Pet, but recently, on both ends, things seem to get a little strange. On the work end, there have been many reports of strange blackouts that are not connected to any outages at all, but one odd thing about these cases is that some people that were there in those odd blackouts were either killed by an unknown source, disappeared without a trace, or are oddly mentally damaged in some way. And no one knows who’s causing this or what’s going on. Now on the V-Pet side, as Henry takes care of the Digimon, he gets an odd feeling that he’s face to face with a friend he once knew a long time ago. But one day, Henry managed to Digivolve his little Digimon into it’s champion stage, however, when night rolls around, the lights in his house start to flicker. This makes Henry put his guard up, because the flickering was also reported in those cases, and it seems like he could be the next victim of this odd case. But suddenly, the TV he has nearby turns on by itself and something starts to emerge from the screen. The figure emerges from the TV and it turns out to be a Digimon, the same Digimon that Henry is taking care of (The Digi’s name is Medicmon). The Digimon approaches Henry, who’s a bit frightened by the appearance of the Digi. Then Medicmon says, “Henry…what’s wrong…? Don’t you recognize me…? It’s me…! James…!” Henry doesn’t believe that the Digimon standing before him was James, but Medicmon asks him to take his mask off to prove to him that he is. Henry takes off Medicmon’s mask…and he sees it, James’ face but with two scar-like marks on his eyes. It was him, it was really him! Henry hugged Medicmon tightly, so glad to see a friend of his from long ago, Medicmon/James is glad to finally see him after all of these years. After a couple minutes of hugging and crying, this catches some concern to Henry, how can James be a Digimon? What is going on and why is this happening? So now the investigation of the strange blackouts now extends to being tied to Digimon appearing in the real world. So now Henry and Medicmon/James must find out what’s causing this and how to stop it from getting worse.

Now there is ONE thing about this AU that stands out above others, is that in this AU, the Digital World is NOT a virtual world from computers, though it is connected to technology (which is the Digis only way to get to Earth.) But instead, it’s an alternate universe, living in a separate dimension than Earth. Digimon are odd magical creatures that look and act like they’re digital or are made out of code, but they’re organic and everything digital related is part of who they are.

As for how the living fuck did James get revived as a Digimon? Well, that’s because that was the work from a Digimon cult called “Gatherers of the Monsters”, where they take the souls of people who died and transform and revive them into Digimon, where these souls will live the rest of their lives as, because in their eyes, there is no way to reverse the effects. Once you’re a Digimon, you can’t turn back. But oddly, James and other souls who got transformed into Digimon, don’t remember the cult’s existence, all they know is that they died and they next thing they knew, they became Digimon for some odd reason. So there’s a bit of a mystery to this AU, finding clues that would lead to this Digimon cult.

Also, Digivolution is pretty much a permanent state (and since Henry doesn’t have the fancy Digivices the kids from the anime do), which means Medicmon/James will NOT Digivolve, he’s pretty much stuck in his Champion form the whole time.

(As much as I LOVE the idea of Henry carrying James around as a little Fresh or Rookie Digimon, this works too X3c)
