QAF 30 Day Challenge - Day Five
Favorite Female Character Daphne Chanders
Ahhh, Daphne. My princess. My love. My heart. I am forever sad your screen time diminished significantly once Justin got more secure in his relationship with Brian, but I shall love you forever and believe me, you have a starring role in all my post 5x13 head canons.
Daphne is the best friend we all wished we had. She’s sweet, caring, and supportive, and is always there for Justin when he needs somebody to talk to. When Justin casually comes out to her, she says she always figured he was, then offers him some of his veggie wrap. And then when Justin eagerly suggests they buy bracelets as symbols of their amazing friendship, then sheepishly admits he doesn't have any money, she coughs up the cash. Oh, those two. Their friendship is just precious.
But Daphne's no doormat. If Justin’s doing something stupid -- you know, like continuing to make excuses for a certain fiddler who tries to pass him off as his cousin -- she’ll call him out on it. She'll support him no matter what, but she's going to make sure he's not losing sight of the things he himself has always said are important. And that’s the sign of a TRUE friend. She genuinely loves Justin and wants what’s best for him. Hell, remember her reaction when she first saw Brian? She said he was so old and too skinny and Justin could do way better! She thought Justin could do better than the hottest guy in Babylon. See? Daphne is AMAZING.
And speaking of Brian, I’ve always found her relationship with Mr. Kinney to be pretty damn magical. I always think they shared more scenes than they actually do, just because those scenes do pack such a magnificent punch. I love how Brian is such a charming flirt with her, and how in S1 she’s still blushing and giggly but by S4 she’s just “can you hit on me later? We've got business to discuss.” It just further establishes that this is their “thing,” that even though we may not SEE a lot of them interacting, it definitely happens off-camera. I 100% believe Daphne and Brian grow closer once Justin leaves for New York, at first each under the pretense of making sure the other is okay with Justin gone, but eventually just giving up the act and hanging out because they enjoy being in other’s presence.
Oh, Daphne. Your time with us was far too short, but you made an impact, my love.
