[Izuku]: I’m not sure what you mean by “mild” or… “soft”, but Kaa-chan is… Kaa-chan. He’s blunt and oblivious to a fault, so people take offense to what he says a lot.
[Izuku]: For example, when we first started to learn how to read, he pointed out the kanji in my name cut to Deku, which means “worthless”.
[Izuku]: His thought process went like this, and I quote: “De…ku… Deku… Dekiru? Dekiiiuuu…ru. That’s it! I’m gonna call you Deku now, Deku! It sounds fun!”
[Izuku]: Translation: “Deku sounds like Dekiru, so it can be your nickname! You’ll like it!” I don’t take offense to it, and he didn’t mean offense either. I started calling him Kaa-chan in return.
