As I've learned since a recent incident, from other designers scared to speak up, about THE INDUSTRY: Your designs might very well get credited publicly to the stylist. Might come back ruined, or damaged in shipping without insurance - if at all! Promises are worthless. If they've promised to pay, then do not ship a single thing until they do so. You have what they need, not the other way around, they'll find a way to pay for what they get. At the very least, you deserve an up front damage deposit plus rental fee WITH A CONTRACT they must agree to, or no go. When they approach you like this, asking to "use" your stuff, borrow, last minute of course, they're expecting you to jump at the chance for - wait for it - exposure bucks! They assume that, of course, we with our 5 figure incomes will froth at the mouth for a chance at our work getting a minute of fame. As if that will put food on the table. Sadly they assume this because many of us say yes. I have, previously, because we all want some big break that will provide us some kind of financial security that this world makes difficult to achieve with ethics intact. All this, while they know they could easily pay for a hundred of whatever it is they're asking for and probably not even notice the dent. I didn't know who this guy is until this message 😆 When those with wealth and power dangle only the faint promise of those things in front of those without, while clutching their overflowing purse strings tight, that's some BULLSHIT. We only pretend we can't smell it because we want to believe that people really have the best intentions for us. My dears, they do not.
