hi, do you have anything at all to share about pmh? fic ideas you're never gonna write, headcanons, favorite scenes, unique takes, anything at all is fine! i just love your perspectives in general and would love to hear smthn from you about one of my favorite movies ever!
Omg yesss first of all, my absolute favorite shot is when Grace is saying goodbye to Rocky, wherein he raises his hand and Rocky subsequently raises his claw. I see a lot of meaning behind it: the contrast (and also the somewhat-similarity) between their human and alien bodies, Rocky's tendency to copy, a final wave goodbye, and also CAVE PAINTINGS!!!
Human handprints are common early forms of art, and I'm 100% sure Eridians have their own version with their claws!! It's a trans-universal expression of being!! And now two of these intelligent art-makers have met and they're more similar than either species could've imagined!! Idk there's just something about choosing love in the face of opposition that's so important to me. Love that transcends all odds, millions of lightyears, species, language, everything; it is, in my opinion, the meaning of life. (That is to say, all love in general, not just romantic.)
Project Hail Mary has easily fallen into my top 4 movies of all time. Grace choosing Erid over Earth is especially important to me for two reasons. One: because he deserves Erid more, given Earth's treatment of him, and Two: it's a very cathartic ending for an otherwise very emotional film, and I think the meaning behind it is phenomenal. A home isn't wood and brick. Your family might not even be on your birth planet. It's the people who choose you, who love you even though they cannot touch you, and home is wherever they are.
And I'm not saying this though a strictly gracerocky lens, because I believe they love each other no matter if it's romantic or platonic or anything else.
Stratt is also fantastic. She's such a complex character and written with clear intent, and I like how she's right. Everyone listened to a woman and she was RIGHT. We need more of this in media. I'm also such a sucker for the soundtrack. Daniel Pemberton you absolute fucking wizard, it's perfect. I would love to get my hands on that zoetrope vinyl, but my record player is in storage ughhh
As for fanfic ideas, I don't have any currently, but I like toying with Grace's PTSD after surviving the mission and how Rocky would respond to it. Obviously he's traumatized, too, but I feel like his trauma would revolve more around his crew and Grace's near-death, rather than his own bodily harm. I feel like Rocky latched extremely hard onto Grace. More than Grace did to him. Poor guy definitely has an anxious attachment lolol
All in all: PHM is an extraordinary film and a highlight to this otherwise shit year. I saw it in theaters three times, which wasn't nearly enough :'(
I wish gas stations didn't pay fuck all because I would absolutely love to work at one in the middle of nowhere and hear all the ghost stories my customers would tell me after running frantically out of the woods

My Thoughts About Good Omens 3 (SPOILER WARNING)
To start: I don't think it was bad. I liked it, and while the ending isn't my favorite choice, I think it works for their characters and it's SO SWEET how they found each other in a completely different universe 😭😭😭 (And got MARRIED??!!) One gripe I do have with that is: they found each other much too late, IMO. I know that's how it had to work with the budget and hiring younger actors (or CGI or more extensive makeup for M&D) and schedule, but I wish they had more time together.
The beginning was ripped straight out of something that I MYSELF would write and I think it's fucking fantastic. I thought the pace was decent considering the circumstances, and the dialogue was incredible. David and Michael poured their hearts out into these roles and everybody on the team did a fantastic job.
I was left surprised at some plot points, specifically when the angels started vanishing and Satan showed up. (Then later God, who was absolutely stunning btw.) Speaking of her and heaven and hell, I think it's a good choice to rid of them if they can't get their shit together. I wish there could've been other ways, though, but they both seemed corrupt beyond repair, and I think it's a great message, too.
Jesus was one of my favorites. He was so sweet and exactly what I imagine the true Christian Jesus Christ to be like if he were to return. I can tell there was a lot of thought and respect writing and casting him.
All in all: some things ended unsatisfactorily, but it's a wonderful story in whole and I'm just glad we got anything at all.
