It's evident that he stayed up late again, slumped over the desk and fast asleep. She drapes a blanket over his shoulders, gentle in her actions to ensure she doesn't wake him from his sleep. There's always so much work to be done, Cardia doesn't blame him for the fatigue that overtakes him. She leans in, presses a soft kiss at his temple, smiling against his dark bangs. "Happy birthday Lupin. I hope you're having sweet dreams."
His eyelashes flutter at the feeling of soft lips brushing against his bangs; however, he barely registers the action, eyelids heavy and his mind still hazed with sleep. He blinks once, twice, slowly moving his head to the side to see Cardia’s smiling face down at him — perhaps a bit shocked and apologetic that she awakened him from his slumber by the act of intimacy, but his vision was blurry, giving her the allure that she truly looked like a goddess from the way the sunlight stemming from outside only enhancing her features.
A lazy smile graced his face as he sluggishly raised a hand to caress her cheek, bare thumb tracing her skin. He truly considered it a blessing that he was able to do this, now, without his gloves to protect him from her previously-poisoned skin, to feel her warmth against his.
Lupin closed his eyes briefly, a small sigh escaping his lips as he simply savored the feel of her skin, the situation he found himself in. The fatigue was still heavily prominent in his mind, and he knew he wouldn’t be able to stay awake for much longer — pulling all-nighters for days would do that to a man, even a refined Dashing Gentleman Thief such as himself.
He willed himself to stay awake for just a second longer, thumb slowly moving over to her lips and brushing the soft texture briefly,
“If I could summon enough strength, I’d be kissing you senseless right now as a ’punishment’ for waking me up, you know.” he was clearly jesting despite his voice being slurred and deep, both obvious signs he was still half-asleep and gradually falling back to his dreams,
“… It… to wait… for…”
He couldn’t keep the coherent thought, or being awake in general. His head laid back against his arm pillow, the warmth of the blanket Cardia draped around him only further alluring the desire to sleep. The thumb that was caressing her lips sluggishly fell back to the table as a result.
He’ll definitely request some of her time later on when he’s conscious, but for now his dreams were filled with her smiles and joyful laughter. Happy birthday, Lupin.
