“ You know what Rebecca's email was about? ” she says, as she removes a roll of duct tape from her shoulder.
Chris watches her, curious. "Nope." He pauses. "Can I guess it has something to do with you?"

four (ish) headcanons I am making up about our characters
Leon used to write texts to Jill's number after she died. Her plan was canceled and she lost her old number. He laughed about it later and showed her some of the texts over drinks. It was equal parts sad and funny. It gave them something they needed to laugh about and try to grieve and get over.
Leon had to hop a flight from Vietnam into the States for Jill's funeral. He came a week early to try and help everybody out. It really did feel like the world ended when Jill died, and when she was found alive, god the joy from the ENTIRE group was palpable. Leon gave Jill her own funeral program and said do what you want with it.
Jill and Leon have the same music taste and he exchanges music with her pretty often. Their message history is mostly song recs. Jill and him are "bros" in energy. They'll meet up for drinks and a bite to eat every so often.
Leon brought Jill back one of her STARS berets and the photo of her puppy from the RC crater. He has no idea why it was put out on her desk because he didn't remember seeing it there, but figures some creep went through her stuff.

"You need to stay away from me."
from [jill] here
“Jill? Is something wrong?” Sheva asked, tilting her head to get a closer look at the other. The newspaper on her desk told a story of a wild animal — something large, likely a bear — killing some humans. The humans’ connection to Umbrella wasn’t reported on at all, and Sheva didn’t seem to notice any parallel between the story and the person in front of her. Jill’s teeth caught the light just so, however, and Sheva looked a little startled. “You’ve got some sharp teeth.”
Sheva split the challah bread she was currently enjoying in two, and she offered Jill the other half. The other’s appetite was insatiable as of late, and sharing bread had always been their thing. She smiled at the other woman, but it was an uneasy smile. Sheva seemed tense, on edge — terrified was a better word for it. Something about those teeth unsettled her to her core, and she tugged her red hoodie a little tighter around herself.
“Have you eaten recently?”

the stench of stale pizza hangs in the air, it tickles her nose in a way she knows won't go away any time soon. it amazes her jill can breathe in here, a soul closed shut from the world outside, peering from the blinders through stained glass. a proper cleaning will require she bring along a gasmask. day's old takeout scattered across every inch of the kitchen, a half eaten pie greasing the table through the carton. there must be a delivery man out there making some really good money in this district, & he shouldn't share in her horror, jill's frame covers the mess when she opens the door. she has a way of taking up the scene, even in the small hallway leading into the rest of the kitchen.
there is no reason for ada wong to occupy this space, ever since she set foot in america she felt like a puzzle piece that doesn't fit, & for as much as jill valentine echoes the catastrophe of a college frat, turning her apartment into more of a den for her to stew on her own nightmares, she is out of place too. they are women of another world that struck one another like speeding cars on the highway, an impact they won't ever forget, a pointed gun down a damp alley after a few days of an ex-cop trailing an umbrella scientist. john was such a foolish man, her name was clogging the sink of his throat while she couldn't wait to peel herself away from him. in the ruins of his failure jill had found three letters & she carried them with her mania, a dozen red strings tied around a board of circumstantial evidence. she should thank him for that, no matter how their office romance soured her tenure at NEST, that he would lead jill to her. give her the respite that neither his presence nor his obsessive letters ever could.
“ i’m not used to having such good company. ” a comment intrudes from the other room, or from down the small hallway that links the bedroom & the kitchen—these apartments have the same cramped luster as kowloon's walled city.
she perks up, a pleasingly sweet hum sung through the noise of a sponge wiping away at a week's worth of unwashed dishes. ada can't abide all that jill has become, she knows how easy it is to let yourself go when you have nothing to hang onto. hong kong is a thousand miles away & forever changed in her absence. she can't return home, not before her job is finished & there's dread sneaking into her resolve, that when this is over her resume will be bookended with a final note, that she has become a liability. ada can't allow jill to turn her own home into her reflection, so stare at yourself so deeply is to become distorted in what you are not.
“ an indictment of your fellow officers, or are you trying to butter me up, hmm? ” a smile flashed to the corner of the room, where jill leans, at the edge of her vision she could see jill content to watch her play domestic. so much for sharing intel, everything ada smuggles out of the lab would get lost in the mess. “ gonna give me a hand ? you've been eyeing me all night. ”
either way, ada doesn't quite seem to mind.
@forgotten-retrouvaille replied to your post ““Alright, where the hell did my lighter go?” She’s...”:
“ I don't know. You lose your shit all the time. ”
"Look I may lack object permanence sometimes but I'm not THAT bad. I JUST had it, where the hell did it go?"
SURPRISE ATTACK ! I've said it before but your characterization of Lara is just lovely and you manage to keep it so consistent no matter what verse you're writing in. it's an absolute treat to read your writing and can I just say you have some of the most beautifully and impressively written out plot arcs I've ever seen in any rpc? That and I don't even know where to start when it comes to reading your current hail mary threads, like wow. They're so cool to read and it's so clear that you're passionate about it and that's the kind of thing I absolutely love to see<3
i am soooo completely speechless by your kind words. like, moved to tears type stuff, just sat there and stared at this message with the biggest wet eyes cat face meme ever ??? i'm so in awe and super grateful that you even took the time to write this because it's extremely thoughtful and sweet. ( and tickles my fancy for validation so muchhhh ) and even more your appreciation for my project hail mary writing ( it's a joint effort i can't take all the credit jam genuinely brings it out in me ) but to know that something i've been enjoying so much HAS actually been bringing a lil merriment to someone else is making my lil heart sing. you're truly a darling, and i appreciate you so much.
it's a small portable camera. jill lifted this from her purse two weeks after a playful dare so she was caught off guard. the edges are a little cracked and dented from years of use, the roll contains several photos of cases alyssa took on to report, and there are about eight only of jill and her own material. some of it is sightseeing, some avian subjects, and there's a couple of jill herself posing up against a couple of natural monuments and tourist-traps. she signed the gray backing of its case, a simple VALENTINE with a heart replacing the top of the i scrawled in black marker as a keepsake. it's been slipped back into her carry bag, seven days after it was originally stolen.
In 2009, Jill Valentine returned to life against the odds, and Alyssa immediately went to collect her as soon as she could. She had a half a year in Kijuju to process what had happened.
Finally, out and away from all sorts of horrors, She'd met Jill in her temporary apartment, and talked over a few beers and a couple of old stories.
In the weeks that followed, she kept calling, and texting. She asked to write a book on her experience as part of a way to release some of what they both carried.
Kurt always lectured on the power of a photograph, and that, above anything else, seemed to release Jill Valentine from the first few bars of a self imposed cage. She had noticed her camera missing, which landed her in some hot water with a couple of things that she had to make up quick.
But none of that mattered when she got the camera back, and printed the pictures. There were just eight of them, but Valentine was there, alive, and looking at birds. There was a gentleness and peace to them that was defiant.
Alyssa printed copies for her, put them into a manila envelope, and sent them out, keeping her own copies in a letterbox she left with Ryman.
Keep your mitts off my shit, Valentine. With love, Alyssa. PS: You look amazing, girl.
