Passing gates of ancient times...
Starck's Halloween Reincarnation Party flyer, 1980
— Czeslaw Milosz, tr. by Robert Haas, from “Late Ripeness”, Second Space: New Poems
I don't think people understand how wild it is to be a woman whose long term relationship has ended.
Once my ex's mom - my not my mother in law - called to complain to me that she doesn't know what to say when her friends ask about us because she's too ashamed.
Cool. coool. Lady you are no longer my problem. What did you want me to say?
You thinking this was appropriate explains a lot about your child actually.
I hate that you’re on my mind, after all this time. It’s been over a year since I last spoke to you. And still, when I’m feeling poorly I hop in my car and hit the highway and wish I could be back in the passengers seat of your car, screaming the lyrics out into the night. I miss who I was then, fearless and immortal. I miss who you were, rough and prickly but sweet and so protective. And I wonder if you ever really were the boy I thought you were, or if you were just someone I made up in my head. For what it’s worth, I don’t miss you.
I wonder if you still think of me, as often as I think of you. Probably not.
Walk in Light
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. — Ephesians 5:8-10 | New King James Version (NKJV) The Holy Bible; New King James Version®. On Hiatus
So, my brain has pretty much compartmentalized all my former extra curricular activities and slapped a giant label on them that says, "Under quarantine until further notice. No exceptions."
Ex-friend
As frustrated as I feel, I am also so grateful to be able to spend at least a little bit of time imagining and experiencing other dimensions — what a gift of the mind.
What can be done — My dreams feel more real than my waking life.
Do I go deeper into the dream?
Is there more to be found there —where I can go on a date, joke with my dad, solve a mystery, play a basketball game, be a part of the story?
I have been expending all this energy trying to crawl my way back to the surface when my all options lead back to: Trapped.
I want to be with people again.
I want to be out in the world again.
I don’t want to take it for granted — this feeling of freedom that haunts me with the other ghosts of my past.
To my dear ex-friend, my former life, I guess what I’m trying to say is
I miss you.
