Can you prove oneness to me with scripture please?
I get a lot of questions on this topic so I'm going to answer this for you as clearly and elaborately as I can :) Before I even get to the concept of the modern day "trinity", it's best to take a look at where it came from. All throughout history, there has been this concept of the worship of three gods- in pagan worship. It has travelled all throughout bible times, through the Egyptians, the Sumerians, the Assyrians, and so forth. When the Israelites fell to pagan worship, it was this type of pagan worship that they fell to. No matter the culture, there was always some sort of similarity- a god representing the sun, a god representing the moon, and a god representing the earth (oftentimes a goddess). Now, how did this concept make its way through to modern times? In the book of Acts, God's spirit falls upon the disciples and those in the upper room, and they receive the gift of the holy ghost, speaking in other tongues. Peter reminds the people in the streets of the prophecy made in Joel, "16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. 18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. 19 I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. 20 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. 21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Acts 2:16-21) The people in the streets ask how they can become members of this fulfilment of the prophecy (aka, the church). Peter then responds and says, "'Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'" So. Now we have the birth of the first church, awesome :) What we're looking at here is a church comprised mainly of former pagan-worshipping church-goers. The longer this continued, the greater the chance of corruption within the church. In the year 325 A.D., Constantine, a pagan emperor, was in control of the Byantine empire. He gathered that this church could become of value to him, and decided to become a member of the church. He summoned a council and told them he wanted to become a part of this church. The "bishops" of the church tried to reason with him and attempted to use pagan language to explain the church position to him. The first speaker, Arius, was rejected and excommunicated on the spot for attempting to convert Constantine. However, the second speaker, Asthanasius, was aware of the "threesome" family concept of paganism, and used it to try to convince Constantine. He created a "Father" as one person, the "Son" as one person, and the "Holy Ghost", the third person, to illustrate the family concept to Constantine and make the theology more understandable and "acceptable". Since then, there have been two different "Types" of Trinity- The Western and the Eastern. The Eastern places the three vertically- Father, then Son under Him, then Spirit under Him. Prayers must go up to the Spirit, then to the Son, then to the Father, and likewise in the reverse to come back down. The Western concept of the Trinity is more highly favored. This concept proposes that The Father "person" is on the left, then the Son "person" in the middle, on the right, and then the Holy Ghost "person" on the far right. To this date, there have been 43 councils that have attempted to go back to that original council in 325 A.D. to decipher what had really gone on. No results have been procured and thus, the councils continue. Deuteronomy 6:4 instructs us LOUD and clear, of what to make of the concept of three gods: "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one" Regardless of how you try to place the trinity, there is simply no room for three co-equal, co-existent, co-eternal most high god(s). There is only ONE Most High God, and His name is Jesus. Oftentimes I will hear Trinitarians say to me, "Explain the verse in Matthew (28:19) that says, 'Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." First of all, I don't know many Trinitarians who even believe in the necessity of baptism so why they bring that verse to me is beyond me, but I digress. Father is not a name, it is a title. Son is not a name, it is a title. The Holy Ghost is not a name, it is, again, a title. There is only one God- and His name is Jesus! :) If that's not enough to convince you, here you go, my dear anon: "Unto thee it was shown, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside him. (39) Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else." Deuteronomy 4:35,39 "See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand." Deuteronomy 32:39 "That all the people of the earth may know that the LORD is God, and that there is none else." 1 Kings 8:60 "And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth." 2 Kings 19:15 "O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears." 1 Chronicles 17:20 "For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone." Psalm 86:10 "O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou has made heaven and earth. (20) Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD, even thou only." Isaiah 37:16,20 "Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no savior." Isaiah 43:10-11 "Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. Fear ye not, neither be afraid; have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any." Isaiah 44:6,8 "Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time: who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Savior; there is none beside me." Isaiah 45:21 "For I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me." Isaiah 46:9 "Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me; for there is no savior beside me." Hosea 13:4 "And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed." Joel 2:27 "And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one." Zecaraiah 14:9 "And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question." Mark 12:29-34 "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." John 17:3 "Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith." Romans 3:30 "As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one. For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him." 1 Corinthians 8:4-6 "Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one." Galations 3:20 "One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." Ephesians 4:6 "Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen." 1 Timothy 1:17 "Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble." James 2:19 So... I think God made it prettyyy clear in His word He didn't want anyone under Him, beside Him, next to Him, on top of Him, sitting on His head, or anything else. There is ONE God, not three--- and His name's Jesus!!! :)

"evidence of recieving the holy ghost is speaking in tongues, then we cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven." Your saying that unless you speak in tongues, you don't have the Holy Spirit and therefore salvation.
Yes... Anon... I think I've made that quite clear in my last several posts have I not? I'm sorry if I sound a little short but I've expressed to you and clarified with several different verses why this is the case, not through mine own thought but through the word of God. Am I misunderstanding something? :)

How you're coming off is that a person is not filled with the spirit if they don't speak in tongues. Which is completely untrue. Just saying, watch yourself and don't give people the wrong impression of being saved. =]
Well, that is essentially what I'm saying so I guess that I'm not really giving off the wrong impression. Here... let me try to break it down for you like this: John 3:5 "Jesus answered, “Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit." Okay, cool. We have that established. You must be baptized and you must receive the Holy Ghost to enter into the kingdom. We also know that you absolutely must have the spirit of God living within you, because of Romans 8:9 "You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ." That's pretty clear. So how do we know that this is evidenced by speaking in tongues? Acts 2:4 "All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them" Peter further elaborates on this amazing occurrence by recanting the prophecy of Joel in verses 17-21: "17 “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. 21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’" I will pour out my spirit upon ALL flesh :) That means everyone will receive the gift of the holy ghost- so long as they call upon the name of the Lord. This is where a common misconception is- that all you have to do is call upon the name of the Lord. No, if you call upon the name of the Lord, and ask Him to fill you with His holy spirit, He will fill you with the Holy Ghost and you will speak in other tongues as the spirit gives the utterance :) I hope that was enough clarification for you, I don't want to make it seem as though I'm saying one thing when I'm trying to say another... God bless you :)

how can you say that speaking in tongues is a gift intended for all when 1 Cor. 12:7-11 and 1 Cor 12:29-30 says it different?
Ah, and John 14:12 says "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." verse 31 of the verses you just gave me goes on to say, "Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way." Neither of those verses says that speaking in tongues is NOT a gift intended for all :) The first set of verses you referenced to me are speaking of the gifts of the spirit. There is a difference between receiving the gift of the holy ghost, intended for ALL (Acts Chapter 2), and the GIFT of speaking in tongues. The bible makes a clear distinction between the two of them. In Acts Chapter 2, the people ask the disciples, "What shall we do?" in Acts 2:38, Peter says, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." Verse 39 goes on to say, "The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.” "you, your children, and all who are afar off"- that would mean the generations that are to come, us. :)

So are you saying that even though I've been a christian all my life but never spoke in tongues I'm going to hell?
Here is a common misconception that people seem to have when I talk about speaking in tongues... I am not God, I cannot tell you who is going to heaven, who is going to hell, if one of your deceased friends or family members is in heaven or hell- All I CAN tell you is what my bible has to say about the matter. The bible says that except a man be born of the water and of the spirit, and we are shown in scripture that evidence of recieving the holy ghost is speaking in tongues, then we cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven. That's not me, that's what the bible says:) So if that's what you gather from what I'm saying, then I suppose so. However, I stand by what I've reiterated constantly- all I can tell you is what the word of God says :)
