Brockville and 1000 islands
We went back to the St Lawrence after Ottowa where at least there is a breeze and headed to Brockville for our last couple of days. We went out on a boat trip to see the 1000 islands which start at Brockville and extend down to Kingston breaking up the St Lawrence into a multitude of channels. Most of the islands are privately owned and with the border with USA/Canada running through them its an interesting place. We had hoped to walk over a bridge to New York state but they were either too long or not suitable for pedestrians. It was a lovely morning but as we arrived back the heavens opened and we were glad our car and hotel were nearby.
The following day we chilled out and packed up ready for our final journey to Montreal and flight home. On our way to Montreal we did go to Fort Wellington which was the one fort we had missed in our first journey west along the river, simply becuase we ran out of time in a day.
It was yet another fort but again well done and being in Ontario, all info was in two languages again. We also stopped at Cryslers farm another site where defences and skirmishes occured.
What I have really liked about all these forts, run by Parks Canada, is that they are all reasonably rpiced, usually no more than $10 to enter which means they are accessible and you don't feel you are overcharged...in fact they could certainly charge more for those wth re-enacters present.
