What's Going on in the Zone?
For the week of 3/31:
ASPHALT PLANT
Crews will continue pavement quality testing.
I-440 WESTBOUND
Continuing to monitor for, and repair any lane marking or pavement issues. This will be an ongoing thing, with work based on what the contractor and NCDOT notice, and also on public input/feedback
Will continue to break up existing pavement, and put broken up pavement into the crusher machine for re-use as substructure for the new road.
In section between the 40/440 split and bridge over Sunnybrook Road - prepping the subgrade to get it ready for paving in a few weeks.
Will also be hydroblasting the deck of the Sunnybrook bridge to get it ready to have a new latex-concrete deck poured at a later date
Will be pouring concrete for the approach slab that connects to the bridge over Crabtree Creek at the north end of the project. Concrete will then have to cure for 7 days
I-440 EASTBOUND
Breaking up existing roadway surface to prep it for removal.
Working on pipe runs for the drainage system under the road
EASTBOUND I-40
Will be prepping for a realignment of the Hammond Road exit ramps to access EB I-40, building up the embankment for the new temporary alignment that will be in place later this spring.
Setting up a moveable walls along the eastbound shoulders to give workers protection as they work on widening bridges for Garner Road, Hadley Drive and State Street.
