US Meat Supply in Jeopardy? Smithfield, Tyson, PerdueFarms Fights to Stay Open
US Meat Conglomerates are struggling amid the COVID-19 pandemic as employees test positive for the virus. Smithfield’s pork processing plant in Sioux Falls, South Dakota closed temporarily after 293 employees tested positive for the coronavirus. A Tyson beefplant in Wallula, Washington had 30 employees test positive with several others listed as “probable” due to their contact with those who have…

In early 2015, a Compassion Over Killing investigator documented terrifying horrors forced on baby birds, from painful and brutal mutilations to being ground up alive—all inside a Foster Farms turkey hatchery in Fresno, California. While Foster Farms publicly pride themselves for its “”humane”” treatment of birds, there are videos and pictures secretly taken to give people an idea of what newly-hatched turkey’s go through on their first, and sometimes only, day of life.
Inside Foster Farms, Compassion Over Killing has found: extreme processing speeds that result in fragile birds being thrown, tossed and jostled around on machines. Painful mutilations, the baby birds have parts of their toes and beaks burned off without ANY pain killers, a manager horrifying joked that those painful practices are “noes jobs” and “manicures”. And last but not least, sick, injured, or weak birds set aside or dumped into a machine to be ground up alive or gassed to death in plastic bags.
A COK investigator noted a few very gruesome scenes: (taken directly from source)
“ “A worker noted that sometimes people gas the birds incorrectly, which renders the birds temporarily unconscious rather than ‘euthanizing’ them. According to her, another worker discovered chirping birds today when she went to the freezer to discard a cull bag. She warned not to let this occur because if discovered by an inspector the entire facility could get in trouble.”
“The birds inside the bag appeared to be squirming, gasping, and blinking munutes after the knot had been tied. A manager said as long as they were not chirping they should be put into the freezer.”
“When I returned to check on a couple of bags of chicks that had been properly euthanized 30 minutes later, I noted both bags of culls were still showing signs of life (gasping, moving, blinking).””
At Foster Farms, almost 4.5 million baby birds are born into this ‘life’ each year. The ones who survive this nightmare, their lives are just going to get worse. These playful, curious birds will be packed and shipped out to factory farms where they’ll suffer for the next seven months, crammed inside dark, feces-filled warehouses before they will be sent out to be slaughtered.
Foster Farms is aware that consumers are becoming more concerned about animal welfare and has invested in an extensive campaign to convince consumers that they treat their animals well. Foster Farms is in the process of certifying its turkey production practices as ‘humane’ through the American Humane Association (AHA). Foster Farms already has AHA’S seal of approval, but a recent undercover investigation, it’s been revealed that Foster Farms is far from ‘humane’.

I tried the Foster Farms Honey Crunchy Chicken Franks Corn Dogs and it was okay.
These corn dogs were convection ovened and later microwaved.
These corn dogs were soft but firm and had a light honey cornmeal or corn bread taste.
When I microwaved these the honey crunchy corndog coating easily broke off the show the chicken hot dog.
The chicken hot hog was firm but soft while having a very light chicken taste with a light saltness to it but had some hard pieces mixed in like it was from the chicken hot dog with hard pieces that wasn't in well.
This was lightly sweet and salt but not overly of both to me.
I want to see if a frozen pork hot dog corn dog to review later from another company.
I would eat this again with sauce but watch out for the weird hard pieces mixed in.
Got at Kroger.
