Today on the fifth Sunday of Pascha we commemorate the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s Well. The Samaritan woman, by tradition Saint Photine, was one of the first people to whom Jesus Christ revealed Himself as Messiah. It is through her that thousands of Samaritans were enlightened and brought to the Christian faith. May she intercede for us always + #saint #photine #photini #fotini #samaritan #samaritanwoman #well #jacob #jacobswell #pascha #orthodox (at مدينة نابلس Nablus City) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cd1VoWvPYsj/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Samaritan Woman and Worthy Faith
''The episode with the Samaritan woman further reveals itself to be the Lord’s dialogue with the human soul, which at first resists, but afterwards submits and adores its Creator.
The Lord insisted that His victory should not be easy, as if self-evident, mechanical, or in an exemplary style; but rather free, spontaneous, springing from a conviction preceded by doubts, totally transforming the believer from Samaria.
In the final analysis, the act of faith is meant to be thus. It occurs—a thing understood only too well by Søren Kierkegaard—when the soul in prayer does not hear itself praying, but hears the Other confessing to it: “yes, you are not mistaken, yes, it is I, I the Living One, I who am He who is, Who calls you. Follow Me.” And the soul responds without hesitation: “Amen.”
-Fr. Nicolae Steinhardt, Giving You Shall Receive
,,The nobility of the Canaanite woman is revealed in faith, courage, perseverance, propriety, and intelligence. That of the Samaritan woman, through the way she surrenders, without reservations, with enthusiasm, after having first resisted with all the strength and skill of her mind. When the truth is revealed to her, she recognizes it and immediately draws all the consequences. Now is the time. No delay, no doubt, no shyness.
On the spot, she sets out to announce the Messiah, to proclaim His presence, to let everyone know what is happening in their lands, of what unimaginable honor they are being made worthy, from what improbable joy they are called to partake.
Just as Christ desires: those He calls, He wants to be His immediately, leaving everything behind, unstopped by any task, any consideration, or any other duty, be it ever so natural or pure. The field, the trade, the marriage, the burial: trifles, nugas!, as the ancient poet called them. The Samaritan woman, whom we are right to imagine as being looked upon with unfavorable eyes in her own town, no longer cares about what people say: even among her own (where it must have been harder for her, as it was for Jesus), she hurries to glorify the Lord, to be His servant and herald."
