It’s been a nice few days pottering in the caravan, experimenting with a few ideas and creating some new pieces. The iridescent rainbow glass shard I found out field walking with the dogs now has a place in a pendant featuring Roman glass finds and a handcrafted pewter bead I made here in my tiny studio. The bead I made by silicone casting a vintage bead and metal casting in melted pewter reminds me of a sea urchin with its swirls and textures. . . . Here’s an assemblage of found objects I’ve made using part of a metal ruler (check out that resplendent font!), vintage thimble and glass button with a silver swan design. It’s my ode to a dressmaker in a chatelaine style pendant. Did you know the Latin word for swan is “Cygnus” which is also a brightly visible constellation also known as The Northern Cross? In Greek mythology, it represents Orpheus, who was transformed into a swan after death, next to his lyre and sits in the constellation next to Lyra. . . . . .
