FOUR GOSPELS- ESOTERIC TEACHINGS
There’s so much meat in the Four Gospels but most of us have been sipping the milk given us. If you’re looking to dive deeper here’s a quick overview of the esoteric aspects of the Gospels
Matthew- human lineage- symbol is a MAN
Mark- John the Baptist- voice of one crying in the wilderness- LION
Luke- Zacharias the Priest performing duties in Temple- symbol is an Ox.
John- starts in heaven- divine preexistent word- symbol is an Eagle.
These symbols can be found in Ezekiel- 1rts chapter verse 10- he explains the cherubim
Ox, Lion, Eagle, Man. Four fixed signs of zodiac. Four elements. Four aspects of being a human and human expression.
Four anchoring points of cosmology- as above so below.
Matthew- thought- wise philosopher
Mark- emotions- swift, direct and ruthless.
Luke- body- growth and development- ox is a symbol of our body. This is why he plays up the Mother of Jesus
John- different- takes place in Jerusalem- speaks to the highest part of our consciousness- rises above the other elements- Zion if you would
These Gospels are speaking to different aspects of ourselves, to different psychological states present within us.
-this view is explained thoroughly in a book called Inner Christianity by Richard Smoley. Jonathan Black touches on it briefly in The Secret History of the World- except he ties it to the prophets and Revelation. Rosicrucian philosophers like Manly P. Hall or Rudolf Steiner also dive into the concept in different ways but this is the most straight forward way I’ve ever seen it taught.
