Preview for Four States, One Journey: Chapter 57
The holidays have been crazy and finding time to write has been a challenge, but I’m determined to finish Chapter 57 before the end of the year. So to build my motivation and get y’all excited, here’s a short preview of what’s to come:
Kevin turned back to Brynn to find that she was once again glaring down at her phone. “Who are you so angry with?”
“I’m texting my mom,” she explained with a sigh. “She’s making me go to my cousin’s wedding in Las Vegas over spring break.”
“She’s having her wedding in Vegas?” Kevin frowned. “A full wedding with guests? Doesn’t everyone elope there?”
“It’s not one of those Vegas weddings. That’s where she lives so that’s where they’re having it. And I wanted to get out of it, but my mom said we’re going and booked a room at the hotel and everything.”
Okay, that...really didn’t sound like something worth getting pissed about. “Well, it’ll be nice to spend some time with your mom, don’t you think?”
“Yeah,” Brynn replied with a sneer. “Yeah, it would be nice to spend some time with my mom, except for the fact that I won’t be spending time with her. She bailed. I guess there’s this workshop that her work needs someone at, and the guy they were originally sending can’t go so now they’re sending Mom instead. So my first thought was great, now it’s off the table, right? But no, apparently I still have to go. You know how much shit I have going on right now? So she gets to back out because of work and I don’t? Unbelievable.”
With another angry sigh, she tossed the phone beside her on her end of the couch. “And to top it all off, she wants to pay airfare and everything for a plus-one. Bring a friend, she said. Or maybe even a date. Like I’m gonna fly across the country spend several days with a fucking date. If a date takes longer than an hour of dinner or drinks followed by an hour or two in the bedroom, then it’s too damn long.”
“Okay but it’s not that big a deal, right?” Kevin pointed out. “I mean, it’s really generous of your mom to offer that.”
“Well, I’m glad you think so,” Brynn said. “Because you’re coming with me.”
