Girlies, If you are feeling badly about yourself, wear a dress in public.

I wore a dress to Costco. It was a simple cotton dress, nothing dressed up. I got told I was pretty by 3 different strangers. One of them said that I looked like I was a picture on a pasta box? I'll take it. Mainly because, yeah, when I was young I was not bad looking, but now I am in my 50's and 220lbs. At my best, I am now, a solid 6/10 and today I was without make up and had damp hair up in a claw clip. The simple fact that I was not wearing jeans or athletic pants shot me right up to "She is so pretty I have to tell her."

Wear the dress. Wear the fancy earrings. Wear the funky shoes. Do it. You will feel better and people will notice.

Does anyone have any ideas on what kind of economy Phoenix Drop could possibly have? I’m leaning on Phoenix Drop being mainly a farming village, selling crops like corn, wheat, olives, and tomatoes (partly because I’m basing the town on medieval Italy). Perhaps it could also be a mining village as well, because of the mine in the town + Corey who’s a miner. The village could specialize in precious metals like silver and gold, for instance.

Write On!: The Invention of Writing (1/4)

Writing was invented independently at least 4 times in human history (that we know of).

The first time was in Ancient Mesopotamia (in what is now Iran) about 5,000 years ago, where people wrote on clay tablets in cuneiform, a script that uses the edge of a stylus to make triangular markings on wet clay:

However, cuneiform didn't start out looking like a series of short and long triangles.

Proto-cuneiform was a lot less abstract. Writing in Mesopotamia started out for keeping track of goods, so early writing was mostly drawings of the goods being traded, stored, and used.

Over time, the drawings got simplified and before you know it: good old cuneiform had been invented.
