Makoto Fujmura, one of my all-time favorite artists, made a book. It is the four canonical gospels, it is decorated with his paintings, and it is just stunning. The whole thing is a work of art in and of itself. He painted the pages by hand with strokes inspired by the words, and each gospel corresponds with an inspired painting. Fujimura talks about the connection between art and the love of Christ, and how we have lost a sense of this connection in the modern age. This work is an attempt to "draw our gazes "upward" as well as inward. For so many reasons that I can't write about on and IG post, this is the most perfect gift that I could have gotten this year.
