Finished Good Omens and so it’s time to hop on that unpopular opinion train off and on here we go.
It was okay. A lot of characters were hard to connect to or root for, I felt bored on and off, but all these things are actually quite normal reactions for me when it comes to both authors’ individual works in general. There’s always too much whimsy and the meandering doesn’t always bear on the plot so my mind wanders away. I also am tired of the pre-teen Antichrist in general, but that just comes with the territory of this type of story no matter the writer(s).
That said, what kept me watching was Aziraphale and Crowley. They were dynamic, relatable, and whenever they appeared the story seemed active rather than passive and we had less meandering away from what we were up to. Aziraphale has his books, food, and want to do the right thing and please God, all very relatable. Crowley’s got the music, cars, revels in the modern era, likes to do annoying things like highway congestion and wifi outages, also very relatable. I liked that in them we got an apocalypse thwarted by an angel who isn’t quite and a demon who isn’t quite along with an Antichrist who just chooses to not have an apocalypse all together. I also liked that it was the slow burn love story to end all slow burn love stories.
I’m glad I watched it, but will I watch it again? Nah, but I am probably going to poke about AO3 and enjoy the non-M/E fic as with any fandom.
