Ruffled Feathers
Chapter one: In your shadow.
“I don’t want to go…” “Well we’re going.” “You can fly!” “Yeah! And if I dropped you. You could die!” Pearl was slowly flying through the air while holding Grian, who's smaller wings pitifully tried to keep up with hers. “Okay, and?” “…Grian, don’t make that joke.” “Sorry…” “Sigh apology accepted.” “…” “…” “…” “…”
“I still think this is stupid.” “Grian!” “Am I wrong?!” “Well first of all Mr. ‘I fly with Propellant’ what I just dropped you?” “I’d fall slowly while flapping my wings quickly.” “Yeah… exactly… you fall like a feather and a rock at the same time. Very slowly, but straight down.”
The two would watch as others far older and younger than them went by. “Why couldn’t we just drive?” “…Really?” “I’m just embarrassed okay…” “I know, but… come on… if I go in for surgery or something, you’re grounded basically.” “I can use Propellants!” “Yeah… and you confused it fireworks… and then YOU went to the E.R.” “…” “Look, Mom and Dad want you out of the nest, and you know you won’t be able to drive anywhere. Some places just are too far and rugged for a car.” “…” “…Grian?” “Just put me on the ground, we’re nearly the training center.” “Alright nice.” The two land. “Look, if you need someone to vent to, we can go home at lunch and come back another time.” “Easy for you to get knocked down and get back up. You’re doing practice drills for adverse flying and combat.” “…Yeah, well. You’ll get certified for independent/flying without propellant soon.” Grian watched as Pearl walked away and left him alone. “…I’d rather not be an embarrassment and hide behind you though…”
