Me too! I think it’s cos we get a pretty negative experience of Nora culture, while most of the interaction with Avad and the sundom is positive, or at least showing that they’re trying real hard to get better.
That’s a good point, I think that’s a lot of it – like for all the horror stories we hear about the Mad Sun King, Avad is genuinely trying to do his best to fix that reputation and show everyone that the Carja aren’t necessarily just someone to be feared. Like they’re formidable, sure, you don’t want to underestimate them, but they make it very clear that the Eclipse is not a majority and the nation as a whole is trying to heal.
And all of that while the Nora still, for the most part, stick to the beliefs and taboos that shut Aloy out in the first place, like they might make exceptions given the situation (letting people into the mountain or making anyone who wanted to help fight a Seeker), but they’re not about to fundamentally change how things are run.
I get that it’s what their society was built on, but it seems they could at least loosen up the whole “accidentally stepping into the ruins means immediate exile” attitude. Aloy herself always seems so uncomfortable there, despite the nostalgia of growing up in the Embrace, you can tell the sudden shift in her status is something that doesn’t really sit right. But no one in the sundom is like that, they don’t know she was an outcast and is now practically worshiped, to them she’s just a really good fighter who tames machines and saved their king. Their opinions are all based on what she’s done, not any titles, former or current. If someone doesn’t like her, it’s not solely because she didn’t have a mother or whatever else she can’t control.
Rife with conflict and nasty machines or not, the Carja land is just so much more comfortable and promising.
