Vallas (and the gang) and Nin @foxoftheglade
Vallas, Dak, Agui and Hesire are on a mission and run into Nin and Zev after the Blight has ended.
“I don’t wish to alarm you, my dear warden, but we appear to have guests.” Zev said whilst poking his head through the tent flap. He did’t sound alarmed, more amused. After last night he truly wasn’t ready to rouse himself this early in the morning, they had been traveling along the Frostback mountains for a few weeks now and had decided to enjoy some frivolities they hadn’t been able to indulge in recently.
“What are you talking about?” Nin sat up, running hands through his mussed hair, attempting to wake himself enough to think of a reason for such an event. When none came to mind he decided for a head on approach, though he'd much rather stay curled up in the warm tent, standing he got ready to confront whoever was outside. When he stepped out of the tent he did not expect to see what he did.
Three imposing looking Qunari and an elf who was scrubbing furiously at her helm, with a look in her eye that she was about to kill someone. They were all covered head to toe in blood, gore and an unidentifiable slime. One of their party was being helped to the ground gently by the one with ashen grey skin and luminous eyes, they winced every time they moved their leg. Soft mummers were coming from the group as they gathered by the fire, still glowing with soft embers from the previous night.
At a loss for words Nin looked to Zev, who just shrugged and smiled. Ever helpful.
“Your bed head is really cute.” Nin whipped his head so fast he thought it might snap. One of them has wandered over, smiling kindly at the two elves, a twinkle in his eye and a request on his lips that was quickly snubbed.
“What are you doing in our camp?” He snapped, unconsciously running a hand over his hair. The Qunari looked taken aback but his smile was still genuine.
“Oh, yes, sorry. It’s very rude of us, and I apologise. But we saw your fire and needed help after we had a bit of an issue with spiders. I’m Vallas, by the way.” He held out his hand for a few seconds, then thought better of it considering the blood that dripped off the tips of his fingers. “We’re very sorry to bother you but Hasire desperately needs a healing potion if you happen to have one spare.” That smile was there again, and now he was ringing his hands like a child who was caught stealing sweets. Nin assessed them, they seemed harmless enough, but he knew that this could be a trick or a trap. Knowing Zev wasn’t going to be any help, he squared his shoulders at the Qunari, they looked at one another and that damn smile was still on his lips.
“That’s fine my friend, we have several spare if you need more.” Zev said as he sauntered over with a small pack of potions. Vallas squeaked with joy, thanking Zev profusely before taking them over to Hasire and offering it to them, leaning down to help make them more comfortable. Nin didn’t see the rest of their exchange because he was now glaring at Zev.
“He’s right, you do have cute bed hair.” Zev said casually. “I heard a ruckus a few hours ago and went to find out what was going on, they had been ambushed by spiders in the cave to the north. They followed the light of our fire. I’m sure they're harmless, and if not, then we kill them. No worries mi amore. I woke you so you wouldn’t stumble out completely naked and scare them away” Zev was now standing close running his fingers through white locks, calming him, but he still grumbled about being woken.
“I still want you to keep a close eye on them.” He said, Zev just waved and nodded as he walked over to the dying fire so he could start making breakfast.
An hour later, when everyone was washed and fully dressed, the group sat around the fire sharing food that was salvaged from the attack. It was a mix of fruits, dried meats, cooked eggs and porridge all kindly received and happily distributed. They sat around the fire in silence eating. Agui, the elf with the long red hair and a murderous look in her eyes, was sat on Daks lap. His luminous eyes watching Vallas massage Hasire’s newly healed leg. They were all leaning on each other in one way or another. They started muttering among themselves, too quiet to be heard from the other side of the fire. When Nin raised a questioning eyebrow, Zev shrugged and continued to eat his apple as if there wasn't a care in the world.
“We can’t thank you both enough for helping us, I truly don’t know what we would have done if we hadn’t found you!” Vallas said, breaking the silence. He was smiling again as they each said thank you.
“That quite alright, you were in quite a state, and we couldn't turn you away.” Zev being ever so cheerful as he picked up the scattered plates and came round to give Nin a soft kiss. All of a sudden Agui was on her feet and heading straight for Zev with her hand on her weapon, un sheathing the massive sword. Nin instinctively reached for his bow, ready to slaughter them if they made a move to attack. He was shocked when she put the sword standing in the ground, went up on her top toes and kissed Zev on the cheek. He chuckled, saying something in her ear that earned him a punch on the arm, he continued to laugh merrily as he nursed the bruise that would surely form. Then she was in front of Nin. The same thing happened - sans punch, luckily. Vallas, Dak and Hesire were on their feet in no time heading to Zev, who welcomed them with open arms and lively laughter, each gave him a kiss on the cheek. Vallas pulled him into a bear hug and spun him round before bringing him over to Nin, who at this moment didn't really know what to do and why they were suddenly kissing and hugging like old friends.
“Aha, my friend, were just thanking you for being so kind. Augi, you see, she doesn't really know how to say thank you, but she knows affection. And its so wonderful to see you both blush.” Vallas was squeezing him tight and Zevran was laughing next to him, catching him as the hulking Qunari released him from the hug. The others were retrieving their packs and heading off without another word, Augi leading the way.
“I best be off, it was lovely to meet you both!” His smiling face disappeared as he jogged to catch up with the others.
“Next time we have ‘guests’ leave me in bed would you. Or better yet, put out the fire so we don’t pick up strays.” Sarcasm was thick in Nin’s voice but he was smiling when Zev kissed him softly on the lips.
“No more strays, we’ve done enough of that mi amore.”
