Todays taxidermy task was a huge female red fox, ive taken the liberty of naming her Evil Eye due to a nasty infected eye that caused major issues for her while she was alive.
A few days ago i mentioned the Hidatsa herb iixógadagi. Here it is. iixóga is a fox, maybe because they dig their dens in scrubby bushy thickets like it provides, and dagi means that it's something white. Its latin name is (Artemisia ludoviciana), The genus being named after the hunter goddess Artemis, and Ludoviciana meaning the Louisiana purchase (a large section of central USA). In english people usually call it 'sage', but it isn't closely related to kitchen sage or California sage. Smells kind of similar though. . . It's pretty well known as an herb for smudging. It can also be applied topically to a wound; it causes constriction of the blood vessels (decreasing blood flow), and it causes the blood to clot, absorbs some of it due to its texture, and helps to keep the wound from getting infected. Tea made from it breaks up congestion and reduces fever. . . The burning herb held near or touched quickly and repeatedly against the skin over the joints is a traditional treatment for arthritis. This particularly fascinated me when i found out about it, because i had seen a similar species of Artemisia being used in the same way in Asia, twelve entire time zones away. . . . . . #Artemisia #hidatsa #smudging #灸 #ftberthold #foxpelt #northdakota
