なかなか面白いなぁと、私は思うよ、これ。モントリオールを拠点にするアーティスト／シンガー、Marie-Hélène L. Delormeの３枚のEPを１枚にまとめたもの。全体的に音が少なくって、むしろスカスカで薄っぺらい感じが気持ち良いんだな。ドラムが加わっている以外は多分本人の歌と演奏。ネオソウル的ではあっても、歌がさらっとしていて昔のA&Mの感じの軽さ。ポップ・アートを思わせる独創的な作品。

FOXTROTT - Meditations I-II-III

Montreal’s Marie-Hélène L. Delorme, aka FOXTROTT, will release a series of three EPs throughout 2018 via One Little Indian Records. The physical package including bonus tracks will be released October 5th. Each of the three self-produced EPs, which are to be released throughout 2018, explore the complex relationship between the inner life and the outer world. The musician developed these tracks during a solitary retreat to southwestern Mexico, even incorporating ambient sounds from her voyage into the music. Having channelled fears, insecurities and assorted “twentysomething stuff” into her debut A Taller Us, Delorme found herself more confident, relaxed and open on Meditations I-II-III, a state of being that she really found herself embracing during her visit to Oaxaca, Mexico. “This is where I found the energy and the tone I wanted to capture for the EPs; the warmth, the sounds… It was a happy solitude, a sense of spiritual intimacy, from which I was observing and listening to the outside world. The birds, the animals, and the police sirens you hear ever so faintly on the tracks are from Oaxaca.”

With a jazzy, slinky prowl, Deliver creeps upon us and bewitches us with its meditative and whimsical pop. The R&B infused single comes from FOXTROTT, the producer, musician, and vocalist from Montreal who previously impressed us so much that we even chose her song Driven for an internet radio feature with our friend Grant Owens at We Found New Music. Dusky shuffling percussion and ridged synths create a dazzling contrast on the spellbinding number. Deliver is the lead single from Meditations III, the final installment of FOXTROTT’s three part album Meditations I-II-III, out October 5th on One Little Indian Records. 

Speaking about the emotionally driven new track, MH Delorme of FOXTROTT comments: “I found it interesting to write a warm and accepting song about a painful subject. Sometimes, one just needs to be told: ‘no stress, take the time figure yourself out, I’m not going anywhere.’ This act of choosing love and presence in the midst of uncertainty, is often all that is needed.” For more on FOXTROTT’s Meditations album, visit her website, here.
