“Looks like we have a new neighbor,” Jughead said to his father, FP, as he peered out the window.
“Oh really? Can you see who they are?” He asked his son as he flipped through the newspaper.
“Some girl. Probably in her 20’s. H/L H/C hair. She seems to be all by herself. She has a pick up truck that she’s emptying all the boxes out of,” Jughead said.
“I should probably ask if she needs any help,” FP said, throwing the newspaper onto the coffee table in front of him.
“Uh huh. Help,” Jughead smirked at his father.
“Your father is a gentleman,” he said with a wink before heading out the door.
He walked over to the equally beat up trailer as his to see the girl his son described to him earlier.
She was beautiful, and way out of my league.
Her hair was pushed back with a red and white bandana. She had on a plain white t-shirt, gray work out shorts, and some black sneakers.
“Need any help?” FP asked as he approached the girl who was trying to lift up a box.
“Oh, its fine really,” she smiled at him as she continued to struggle to pick up the box.
“Based on the fact that the box is still on the ground, I don’t think it is,” he chuckled, causing the girl’s face to turn pink and she huffed.
“Okay, thank you,” she smiled as FP lifted up the box and headed towards the trailer.
“Right there is fine,” she said as she pointed to a spot on the floor and FP sat it down.
“I’m Y/N Y/L/N by the way,” the girl introduced.
“FP Jones. Where are you from?” he asked.
“Ah, I finished college 2 years ago and I was home with my parents in Boston for a bit. I found a job as a nurse here and decided I want a change of surroundings. So, I ended up in Riverdale, which is where my parents are from,” she explained.
“Well thanks for your help, I appreciate it,” she smiled at him.
“Do you need anymore? It looks like you have a lot left in your truck,” he asked.
“If you don’t mind, that would be very helpful,” she said as she grabbed a flannel from a kitchen chair and put it on.
“Don’t worry about it. I can bring the rest of the stuff in and you can focus on unpacking,” he told her.
And so FP bounced back in and out of the trailer bringing boxes in while Y/N unpacked stuff in her kitchen.
Soon enough he brought the last box in.
“That’s all,” he said, dropping the last box into the trailer.
“Awesome! Thanks so much!” she smiled at him.
“Been working for awhile now and its dinner time. Would you like to go grab something real fast? Or I can have my son grab some food and bring it back to my trailer,” FP asked.
“You have a son?” Y/N questioned.
“Yeah, he’s a sophomore in high school. He goes to Riverdale High,” FP said.
“Very nice. I wouldn’t mind going out somewhere. Where did you have in mind?” she asked as she threw down the rag she was cleaning the kitchen counter with.
“Theres a diner not too far from here that I work at. Great food,” FP said.
“Sounds good to me! I’m starving,” she exclaimed.
“ We could take my bike over, if you want. Up to you,” He said.
“Sure! Let me just grab my things and then we can go.”
“I’ll be outside,” FP said, as he took the keys to his motorcycle out of his pocket and headed out the door.
What are you thinking? She’s 24 and you are not even close to it.
FP was so lost in his thoughts that he didn’t notice the girl walk over to him.
“Ready to go?” She asked, causing him to jump a bit.
“Oh yeah! Hop on!” He said as he got on himself.
She threw herself on at ease and wrapped her arms around FP’s torso.
The drive to Pop’s diner was short and when they arrived to Pop’s it was practically empty.
They sat down at a booth near the front.
“So, tell me about yourself FP,” the girl said as she leaned her body up against the table.
“Uhh, I’m old, I have a kid, I work at a diner. Not really the exciting lifestyle,” he chuckled, causing her to chuckle as well.
“Ah, FP! And a girl! What can I get you two?” The friendly of owner of the diner, Pop, asked as he walked up to the two.
“I’ll take the usual Pop,” FP said and Pop nodded.
“I’ll have a strawberry shake and a burger and fries please,” Y/N smiled at the man and he walked away.
“There’s gotta be more to you than that!” She exclaimed.
I mean there is, but I don’t really want to say.
“You look upset. Is everything okay?” She asked. He didn’t even realize he zoned out for a moment.
He looked up at her and saw a look of concern on her face. Her eyes furrowed a bit, her head tilted to one side, and her bottom lip poked out a bit.
“If I’m completely honest will you, will you promise to not leave?” He asked, his eyes becoming almost like stone. He gave her a look so serious her eyes widened.
“Of course not! I’m all ears!” She smiled at him.
I don’t know why I trust her so much. It’s probably because I’ve been lonely.
And so FP Jones told his entire life story to this girl. He talked about how he has a wife who hates him, a son who looks up to him for god knows what reason, being arrested, being apart of a gang, and just how he felt.
Sure, he’s talked to his son and some of his serpent friends about this all. Plus, the entire town knew who he was and what he did.
The entire time Y/n was very engaged in listening. She was surprised to hear many things, especially the fact that he went to jail, but she stayed and listened.
“I wouldn’t blame you if you never talked to me again. I’ve done some shit that I’m not proud of,” he sadly chuckled, finishing up his life saga.
“We all go through shit. You’re a good guy. I can tell. I’ve had my experiences with bad guys and you’re not one of them. I know when they’re bad, trust me,” she smiled at him, taking a sip of her shake.
FP looked at the girl in shock.
How can she view me as a good guy?
“If it makes you feel any better I’m 24 and my life is already a travesty. Nothing compared to whats happened to you, but still not great,” she laughed.
“How can a 24 year olds life already be a travesty?” FP questioned with a laugh.
“Well for starters I did get a nice house in Riverdale. I had a lot of savings from when I started working in high school and through college. I worked my ass off almost everyday for years! I was able to get a small house, something that would have been great for me and my boyfriend at the time. I trusted him too much and he took off with all the money. He threatened me and my family, took the money and was gone. I was an idiot though. The relationship was bad and I should’ve left him a long time ago. I just always expected that it would get better or that he would change. Not even expected, I just lived in fantasy land hoping that it would,” She said.
“How bad was the relationship, if you don’t mind me asking?” He questioned her.
There was a brief pause and she sighed.
She then slowly lifted her left arm onto the table and rolled up the sleeve of the flannel to reveal a scar, one clearly from a burn.
“He got drunk as shit one night. Started saying that I didn’t love him and that I was probably cheating on him. I was in the middle of making dinner and he took the pot that had boiling water in it and poured it on my arm. I had to drive myself to the emergency room cause no way he could or even would have if he could,” She said, her E/C eyes on the verge of tears.
FP slowly brought up his hand and placed it on top of her hand.
“Hey, you made it out of that. You’re safe now, especially with me as your neighbor,” he chuckled, causing a faint smile to appear on Y/N’s face.
“Thank you,” she said, still looking down at the table.
“Why don’t we get back home now. It’s getting late,” he said and she nodded.
They both hopped off of FP’s motorcycle and he walked her up to the door.
“This was nice” Y/N said, looking up at FP, a bright smile on her face.
“It was. Maybe we can do it again sometime?” He questioned, leaning against the side fo the trailer.
“I’m down for that” she said, leaning against the trailer as well.
“Well, I should probably get going now. Let me know if you need any help unpacking. If you have a lot, I can always have my son come with me as well” FP said as he pushed himself off the trailer, standing up straight.
“Thanks I appreciate it” she said.
There was silence and they both looked at each other.
Two people, both through their own traumas, they understood each other. They realized that they weren’t alone.
FP took a step forward and placed his hand on the side of Y/N’s cheek.
He slowly leaned his head down and her hands snaked around his neck: their lips met.
The kiss was soft and gentle.
They both slowly pulled away, faces both slightly pink.
“Goodnight FP” she said as she opened up the door to her trailer.
