Twenty + years ago my infatuation with film photography, including the groundbreaking landscapes of Ansel Adams, lead me on a journey that seems to only have just begun. The realism that film brings into a scene is something that most of us photographers can’t really explain but is something that most of us agree on...that it brings a higher level of intensity or surreal tone that ‘wakes’ our imaginations bringing us closer to the actual place and emotion of the scene. Some of the software that is now very effective in bringing some of the film tones and grains of actual ‘old school’ films (such as one of my old faves ‘Ilford 400 120’ B&W) is exciting but doesn’t quite get us “there”.
