Cleaning Your FPV Camera Lens: A Step-by-Step Guide
As you enjoy FPV flying, your camera lens can accumulate dirt, dust, and debris, which may affect your view and drone's performance. It's essential to keep your camera lens clean for optimal performance. Here's a simple guide on how to clean your FPV camera lens:
Materials You'll Need:
Alcohol (Isopropyl alcohol works well)
Water
Cotton buds
Compressed air (optional)
Cleaning Steps:
Step 1: Prepare the Cleaning Solution
Mix alcohol and water in a 1:1 ratio. This solution is gentle and effective for cleaning the camera lens.
Step 2: Power Off Your Drone 2. Before you start cleaning, ensure your drone is powered off to prevent any accidental motor activation.
Step 3: Soak the Cotton Bud 3. Dip one end of a cotton bud into the diluted alcohol-water mixture. Make sure it's not dripping wet; a slightly damp bud is sufficient.
Step 4: Gently Wipe the Lens 4. Gently wipe the camera lens with the dampened end of the cotton bud. Use smooth, circular motions to remove any dirt or smudges from the lens. Avoid applying too much pressure, as excessive force can damage the lens.
Step 5: Check for Residue 5. Examine the lens to ensure it's clean. If there are still residues or stubborn stains, you can repeat the process with a fresh cotton bud.
Step 6: Remove Any Cotton Sticks 6. If any cotton fibers from the bud are left on the lens, carefully blow them off using compressed air. Do not use your breath, as moisture from your breath can cause smudges.
Step 7: Power On Your Drone 7. Once the lens is clean and free of debris, you can power on your drone and resume your FPV flight with a clear view.
Regular Maintenance
It's a good practice to clean your FPV camera lens after every flight session or when you notice a significant buildup of dirt and debris. Regular cleaning helps maintain the camera's image quality and prevents performance issues caused by obstructions.
By following these steps and adhering to a routine cleaning schedule, you can ensure that your FPV camera lens remains clean and provides you with a clear and unobstructed view during your flights.

WLToys V303 Seeker RunCam FPV Camera
WLToys V303 Seeker RunCam FPV Camera – Check out this video where I strapped this action camera to the bottom of my quadcopter. I did not have time to create a decent mount, so I used rubber bans to hold the RunCam in place. I will work on a better mounting solution, as I was pleased with the test results.
I am really starting to like the RunCam. It functions well and is very affordable. I only paid around $60 for this camera and it was worth every penny. The shape of this camera allows you to strap it to almost any quadcopter.
