The view from the Vancouver Economic Commission, where CEP hosted a @hooviemovie screening of #fracturedland, accompanied by the longest refrain of church bells I’ve ever heard. (at Vancouver Economic Commission)
I'm almost trembling... After 3 sleepless months of the hardest work of my life, I can proudly say it: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
Earned: 50,000 dollars, 2,000 FB followers, a suitcase filled with new skills, a greater understanding about myself and the world, and the greatest team I could ever imagine. I feel like I deserve a lot of hi5s and bubbly drinks tonight. We all do!
I love my team so much it aches a little: Caleb Behn, Fiona Rayher, Damien Gillis, Daniel Conrad, Deighen Greene, Mercedes Grant, Sinead Keane, Melyssa Desilles-Rubino, Lindsay Jackson. And a big shout to Tara Mahoney, of Gen Why Media. You are magic.
Also, I just want to say a big shout-out to my mom, Lillian, just cuz I love her so much and appreciate all the gifts she's given me, not the least being the strength to always stand up and speak out for what is right.
On that note, this is not merely an exercise in ego... There are real lives, real lands and real water at stake. I stand with the Fort Nelson First Nation people and all others across the globe working to protect their land, water and way of life.
I am Idle No More.
All my relations.
Mussi cho!
Ajay Puri made this for us tonight! Everyone said the majority of the contributions to the IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign would come in the final days of the campaign. We're seeing a flood of support now - especially after receiving some great social media attention from well-followed friends, interview subjects and new allies. It's just wonderful to see our hard work bear fruit and our channel dialed. I'm feeling so much gratitude right now.
Look for us in the HuffPost, Truthout and the Vancouver Observer tomorrow!
Caleb Behn and Fractured Land featured in The Globe & Mail!
"[Fractured Land] follows Caleb Behn, one of B.C.’s bright, emerging native political leaders, as he explores the complex issues surrounding development in the northeast gas patch. That’s where, as the son and grandson of chiefs, he grew up hunting moose, fishing – and watching his community get torn apart by violence, alcohol abuse and poverty.
Mr. Behn, who sports tattoos, a Mohawk haircut and nicely cut suits, says the goal of the film is to shake people awake.
He wants more than anything else to move the debate over oil and gas development away from the confrontational front lines and into the living rooms of the nation. ..."
