>> ❝ i see you. ❞ (Ardyn to Emet-Selch)
& ARDYN.
Lying comfortably in the shade of a tree, Emet-Selch took advantage of the tranquility of the place to take a nap. Nothing was more pleasant than to feel the wind caressing your skin and stirring up your hair - much more so than the melodious song of the birds that seemed bland compared to what he had known in the past.
But a man's voice took him out of his dreams of ancient times and brought him back to the harsh reality. For a moment he hesitated to do the one who had not heard anything in the hope that this individual would leave him alone. But he deigned to open an eye to see who he was dealing with.
"Has anyone ever taught you that it is rude to disturb a person who is sleeping?" he said in a dismissive tone.
Bit of a random question with a long explanation, so apologies! It's bothered me for a long time that Aera is supposed to be Ardyn's fiancee at 28 in a blatantly ancient Rome-based era. I was considering some possible explanations, and then I remembered the English localization can be a little weird and I got curious. Do you know what they call her in Japanese, if anything? I tried to look up some video clips to check, but I can't remember where, if ever, they actually say it in-game. Thank you!
Hey there, and thanks for the ask! As far as I recall, the “fiancee” thing is only said in the Ep Ardyn prologue anime. Aera mentions it when she’s annoyed at this jerk for always blowing her off to go be Jesus, and the word she uses is 婚約者, konyakusha, which is ‘fiancee’ unambiguously. (The kanji there is marriage-promise-person. It’s not gendered, so it works for ‘fiance’ too.)
The worldbuilding for Ardyn’s era was basically, “It’s a world. Here’s some buildings” so I wouldn’t expect it to make too much sense. But hey, you can always say it has something to do with her being the Oracle.
“I see your point, okay? I get it, I’m a moron.” (from Somnus! it's been a while)
@fragmenthearted
“Somnus, I’m not trying to bludgeon you with my arguments, I’m trying to...” She made a frustrated sound and fell silent, face in one of her hands as she tried to control herself. This was the trouble with this...stubborn ass man.
She adored Somnus’ pride and drive in life. He saw his goals and would do anything to accomplish them, sacrificing himself to do so. He was a man who could make difficult decisions, even if they hurt him. He was a man who could check his emotions out of a situation to weigh it based on cold logic alone, and sometimes such things were needed, especially in the kind of situation they were in.
But sometimes he got so set in his own thinking that she wanted to scream a little. She didn’t, because she loved him, and because that wasn’t the way two adults who cared about one another should resolve disagreements, but it had been more than an hour since they’d started talking and she couldn’t help feeling a little...frustrated. Among other things.
“I never said you were a moron, I said that you get so set in your own thinking that you can’t see any other viewpoints, you think you’ve already considered them or if they were valid then you would have, and dismiss them without examining them. Even if it doesn’t turn out to be a better idea you could at least see if you could glean anything useful from it. Like now, when you’re acting like I’m just trying to be right as opposed to actually thinking about what I’m saying.”
fragmenthearted replied to your post: ❣️
Ardyn, grinning: “How could I be anything but? His Royal Highness has paid me quite the compliment! Do you know? You’re rather easy on the eyes yourself…”
That... wasn’t exactly the response that Noctis had been expecting, and pink dusted across the prince’s cheeks as he turned his gaze away a bit awkwardly. “Um.. I guess? I was only telling the truth.”
He had been told he was pretty good looking before, but easy on the eyes? That was a different kind of compliment.

Emily nodded. "Yes, your brother escorted our Oracle to a village where her powers were requested. He went be 'cause he thought it strange." She didnt think it strange but key him go with his gut.
"But yes, we are alone for who knows how long." She grinned wickedly at him.

It was completely mind-boggling to Ardyn how he could have gotten so drawn into her when he had intended to do the opposite - neither, when he had invited her to visit, had he intended to take her away from the rest of her group… but on the spur of the moment, before she’d made a move towards the door, his loneliness had spoken up.
He would likely have done it anyway, but he was still rather pleased at the way she asked him for her phone, which he passed over to her with a smile - one that was widened by the feeling of her touch on his face.
“Do whatever you need to - though do be careful, darling.”
While he waited for her, he wrapped his arms around Aurora’s waist and continued to quietly snuggle against her. He was simply glad that he wouldn’t be sleeping alone …. Even with all of his hobbies all about, the rooms still seemed… so very, very empty when he was by himself.
The young woman's sweet smile widened slightly. Her fingertips continued to caress his lips for a brief moment before poking his nose with her index finger, chuckling slightly. Then she got her phone back, which Ardyn kindly handed to her, whispering a little "thank you" when he gave it to her. Aurora huddled in his arms as she unlocked the screen so she could send a message to her brother. She did not try to hide to write it, letting her lover read over her shoulder if he wanted to.
Don't wait for me tonight. I have something important and personal to deal with. Alone. I can't explain it to you. I'll get back to you tomorrow. Rory.
"A lie is sometimes better than the truth..." she whispered to herself with a sigh. It was a sentence that his father had told her the day before the peace treaty was signed. And although she hated lying, she now understood its full meaning.
The princess reread the message, her hand pausing in her gesture to press the send button as if she had taken a slight hesitation. She knew she was playing a dangerous game, but even if one part of her told her she was probably making a mistake, the other part really wanted to believe that she had made the right choice. After a few seconds, she finally sent the message. She deactivated all notifications, putting her phone on silent, then placed it on the coffee table next to the sofa, the screen deliberately hidden.
"I will be harassed by questions, but I don't care about it. But for now... We are together, just you and me, until at least tomorrow," Aurora whispered, her smile still on her face. She returned to a much more comfortable position, letting her fingers run and brush Ardyn's neck again, drawing slight arabesques on his skin. "Do you have any ideas to fill our evening? Or do we stay here in each other's arms, just enjoying the moment?"
