I have just seen The New York Times docummentary called “Framing Britney Spears” It’s a disturbing and at times ilumminating view on how fame, media frenzy and sexism can destroy an artist mental health and also how women are judged and patronized in our society. She is under a conservatorship run by her father, against her will. There also mental health issues that I won’t go into here, I invite you to see and judge by yourselves. I highly recommend it. After watching the doc I felt compelled to make this piece on her iconic status in pop culture. And at the end I can help but wonder, would this ever happened to a male pop superstar?
