While specific story events and past decisions can have a significant impact on each of your reigns as queen in Reigns: Her Majesty, highly notable are some of the story-specific items the player will acquire during their time as matriarch, each of which can be used to advance the story in a variety of situations. From a dueling pistol to a spellbook, these all are critical items for swaying and appeasing the myriad of individuals you encounter as Queen... as well as critical methods by which the game is able to maintain consistent progress despite it’s highly randomized nature.

The decisions the player must make throughout Reigns typically only allow for a couple of options, but with an impressive number of randomized branching paths, as well as the satisfying sensation of flicking each decision left or right, the game is able to make each of these decisions feel momentous and minor at the same time. This also allows the importance of each of these supposedly small decisions to come through the longer you play as well, as you begin to learn and understand the consequences that each decision will bring you.
