Alright, so after few years of recognizing it, I FINALLY got to watch the animated French movie of "Monster in Paris". From looking at the video of the songs and how promising it might possibly be like a combination of Beauty and the Beast and Phantom of the Opera except in a French version, it can possibly turn out to be the best non-American I ever seen, right? ......... Oh boy...umm. Let's go for the positive side. I LOVE the plot of the movie. Even the character designs go neatly well for such a Paris theme, as well as the voice acting, the songs, AND the culture they put into it. I even loved Francour and his little curious and sweet personality, as well as adding in his cricketing noise. I honestly thought, from the look of the video of the song, that he would talk a lot in this film. But instead, he would only talk whenever he sings, which I don't find much of a problem since the frog from Over the Garden Wall did the same thing. But here's one of the problems with this movie...possibly the biggest one. There's just rarely any relationship development. And I don't wanna spoil it for you, in case you still wanna watch the movie. But as the movie goes by, you literally just see two characters make up really fast for no good reason. I mean, the lady and Francour like each other because...they both like music? Because she felt bad for him?...I don't freaking know. The movie just tries to go slow pace in getting as descriptive as possible with story, that it just forgot to put in description of the character. Heck, even the villain looks bland. He find himself superior and would do anything insane in order to get more attention and...that's it. The only part where it is the most interesting is when the lady meets Franceour and how she tries to hide him. But after a while, the interest towards the movie just fades away really fast by how much they try to get past the ending already, with only putting little information on the characters. It would have even been nice if we got introduce to the scientist, but we only see him for Iike a cameo. By the time the movie is over, it can be a bit disappointing, since you expected more to come of it than what it seems to be offering. Overall, it's just one of those non-Amercian movie that seems a bit out of order. But hey, atleast it's closest to being a bit of a good movie I recommend. As for the kids watching it, they might find it boring pretty fast. But if you are into French cultures and animations at the same time, then you will possibly like this one. So as the final result, I give this movie: 5/10
