Cornelsen sells Studienkreis to Aurelius - IEG advised Cornelsen

Berlin, 10 December 2012 – Franz Cornelsen Bildungsholding GmbH & Co. KG has sold its subsidiary Studienkreis-Gruppe (Studienkreis Group), the leading provider of tutoring services in German-speaking Europe, to Munich-based Aurelius. IEG – Investment Banking Group organised and navigated the entire sales process as exclusive M&A advisor for Cornelsen.
The sale, which is still subject to the approval of the respective anti-trust authorities, enables Cornelsen to focus on its core business. The transaction includes the three companies Studienkreis GmbH, Studienkreis Partnersysteme and people online GmbH, which are headquartered in Bocum, Germany. The Studienkreis Group provides tutoring services for elementary pupils and secondary school students between 6 and 18 years of age. The company is excellently positioned in the German-speaking market and is distinguished by its high brand recognition. The corporation expects significantly higher annual earnings of 53 Mio. Euro in 2012.
The Studienkreis Group has over 950 locations in Germany. An additional 50 tutoring centres are located in Switzerland, Austria and Luxemborg. In small groups maximum five persons, pupils/students receive tutoring in all subjects, especially in the core academic subjects of mathematics, German as well as English. High levels of instructor qualification and student support are characteristic of these centres. The German Technical Control Board of the Rhein area (TÜV Rheinland) has inspected and certified these qualities in over 800 locations. The tutoring centres are operated either directly by Studienkreis or by independent franchise partners.
