Bandicam vs. Fraps
I’m NOT a professional movie maker or ... really anywhere within the size of Australia near one. I record stuff out of my games, put some music behind it and splice together clips with the old Windows Movie maker. With my B5 and one Bromance Warden vid, they got too big and kept crashing. That was a nightmare.
Anyway, I’ve been a long term Fraps user but I’m running DAI on Ultra graphics across the board. The new vid card handles it fine and even though the CPU isn’t packing Bioware’s recommended power for doing that, it runs smoothly.
Except when I turn on Fraps. Which I’m pretty sure is because of the CPU but I’m hardly going to run out and replace it for making a music video. If ONLY we all had that much money, right? I hunted around for alternatives to Fraps because I’m also getting short on space on one of my hard drives. It desperately needs to have stuff backed up/deleted but that’s a time cruncher and I haven’t done it, yet. Fraps’ files are enormous.
I decided to give Bandicam a shot instead. So far the files are smaller and it’s running my cutscenes smoothly. It isn’t free (but neither is Fraps) but there is a trial version before you commit to buying. I still like Fraps so this isn’t a “OMG STOP USING IT THAT’S CRAP!” post. It simply didn’t work as well with my existing resources. I just thought I’d share this with you guys in case you bump into similar problems.
