27. What is your favourite children’s/middle-grade book?

I wasn’t actually a big reader when I was a child, I mostly read non-fiction books. Since being an adult I’ve discovered the joy of Arthur Ransome novels.

37. Have you read a book in a different language? What was it?

I’ve read books in translation but never in a different language.

47. Do you own any historical fiction?

I don’t really have any genre fiction that’s historical. I have novels that are now historical and some lit fic set in the past.

What is something that fascinates you?

Jonathan Meades said “the banal is a thing of joy, everything is fantastical if you stare at it long enough” and it is my favourite quote. I try and be interested in everything because life is more interesting that way.

Of particular interest at the moment is the progress of spring in the trees and verges and parks around my flat. How quickly it moves. 

If you could go on a vacation to anywhere in the world, where would it be?

This year I’m doing two of my dream holidays (Interrailing and Scottish Highlands & Islands) so if I’ll have to pick somewhere besides those. I’d love to go and visit friends in Reykjavik, perhaps as a stopover on my way to New York or Boston.

What is your favorite thing to do for fun?

I’m really into geofiction at the moment. That involves imagining your own country and writing and mapping about it. It’s always been a hobby of mine but the last two years I’ve been working on Myrcia a fictional country in the OpenGeofiction world. They use Openstreetmap software to build imaginary worlds and it is really quite addicting when you get the hang. 

What is your favorite meal?

Bad Chinese food

If you could travel to a different year (future or past), which would it be and why?

2067. I am really interested in how the accelerations of global warming, neoliberal capitalism, robotics and biotechnology pan out and 50 years in the future seems a good time to observe that.
