vera hardly had much great advice to give, even now after nearly ninety years of being what she was. all she could was make sure that she passed along the laws to any newborns who were clueless and just this little bit of advice. immortality was not something to take lightly and the sacrifices that came with it were often terribly painful.

Bree didn’t quite know what to say. She supposed she had been so cut off from the world due to all the events that she had forgotten to even think of keeping up with events. But now she wished she hadn’t so foolishly forgotten about something like current events after reading this particular article in the paper.

“...It’s my father.” Her voice was shaking slightly from all the emotions she felt in the moment. “He said...He said my mother left me but he murdered her. And they think he murdered me too because he couldn’t prove otherwise.”

He might as well have murdered her, he was the reason why she had turned into a vampire in the first place. If she hadn’t had to run away, she would never have ended up in Seattle, had never been wandering on the streets alone, had never been someone who wouldn’t be missed.

“...They senteced him to life in prison. On the charges of me and my mother’s murder. I didn’t know. I didn’t know... I didn’t know they finally locked up that monster...”

        Her thirst was the only thing more obvious than her sudden fits of anger. While the other newborns ran and nearly killed each other to feed, it was the sight of fire that sent them all scattering. Her power was the only thing she managed to cherish about this life. But when she wasn’t keeping the others at bay, she was spending her time in the corner, impartially fascinated with the twinkling of her skin.  But she wanted out. She was growing tired of Riley’s commands, and the constant waiting. What good was it to be immortal and stuck inside of a house all day and night   ?  She missed her mother, but she knew she was in no state to see the woman. She’d rather her mother mourn the so-called death of her child than to be killed at her hands. Yes, staying behind him sounded like quite a marvellous plan at the moment, she could totally do that, nicely stay right behind him. Perhaps they wouldn’t even see her considering Fred was over a foot taller than her and right now she saw the usefulness in being as small as she was.

To be quite fair, Bree supposed no one could really blame either of them for having little faith in those of their own kind after the mess they went through with their creators. She had nearly died for christ’s sake. 

“Are you sure there are others nearby?” 

She hadn’t been paying attention to anything, which would be unusual if not for the fact that she felt no need to be alert at all times around Fred. She trusted him with her life and felt comfortable around him so she saw no reason to always be on her guard.

“Do you think it’s them? Maybe we should just get the hell out of here. Like now.”

She was sure he knew who she meant. She had only had about a thousand flashbacks of the horrible torture they had put her through. The Volturi.
