I dislike pretty much all the sapphic ships in Mapleshade's Vengeance because they all require one or both of the characters to change core parts of their personalities. (I'm sapphic please don't come for me skjsjej)

FreckleReed: Frecklewish hates Appledusk and wanted to raise children to kill him. Reedshine is an Appledusk apologist and he died to save her. So either Reedshine realizes Appledusk is bad (unlikely) or Frecklewish gets over her issues with Appledusk, which is even more unlikely given that from her perspective he murdered her brother (I say from her perspective because the book states it was an accident). And we see how Frecklewish reacts to people associated with Appledusk. She attacks Mapleshade, clawing her face, and yells at his kits and calls for them to be exiled even though they don't have anything to do with him besides sharing blood. So, I don't think she would ever consider dating someone who chose to stay with him after he killed someone.

MapleFreckle: this one I think has potential as like a one-sided thing, like Frecklewish gains a crush on her while helping raise her kits. She would feel immense guilt for stealing her brother's "mate", and it would hurt even more when Mapleshade's betrayal is revealed. But it doesn't work on Mapleshade's end because she just- doesn't care about Freckle? She sees her as mildly annoying lol, and possibly an obstacle because of how Freckle wants to train Maple's kits to kill Apple. And Frecklewish hates Appledusk who Mapleshade is obsessed with, Maple would never get with her. Mapleshade really just doesn't care about a lot of her Clanmates lol. A good example is how she talks about Birchface; like his death was just an inconvenience. She doesn't feel sadness about it at all.

MapleReed: well um. Mapleshade tried to KILL Reedshine and her unborn babies so. Mapleshade sees Reedshine only as an obstacle between her and Appledusk's relationship, and only has vitriolic thoughts about her throughout the entire book lol. And Reedshine views her as the woman who ruined her poor husband's life and also, you know, killed him. They have such opposing positions that they would never work together.

I really don't care for ships where personalities have to be bent and changed to work. I just don't see the point. That's why I hate SquirrelAsh too, like if you make an AU where Ashfur's a good guy and the relationship is healthy he's just. Not Ashfur anymore! That's a whole different guy! Just ship her with Shrewpaw or something if you want her with a generic kind guy.

And if you ship any of these that's fine! Just because something doesn't work in canon doesn't mean you can't enjoy it :)

If you ship Frecklereed I don’t wanna hear a word out of your mouth on how Maplereed is bad. Frecklereed is just as bad (in non aus/aus that don’t change a lot) if not worse.
