Batman comics got meta in Detective Comics 622, cover date of October 1990. Bruce was surprised when Alfred gave him a comic titled "Unauthorized Story of Gotham's Dark Knight Detective." In the comic, Lucifer tried to make amends for his rebellion by inspiring Simon Petrarch to become the Batman. Back in "the real world" the comic inspired fear of Batman in the citizens of Gotham. To make things worse, a man killed Billy Canfield and wrote "Batman" in his blood. He called Jack Hemp's WGTH show to claim to be Batman and urged him to read the comic to figure out the reason for the murder. Bruce sent Alfred to meet the comic producer Tod Nathan Taylor and, as Batman, Bruce planned to meet the writer Fred Lasker. The issue introduced Clyde Harris (as the murder Batman) created by John Ostrander and Mike McKone. The main comic was pencilled by Mike McKone and inked by Jose' Marzan Jr, and the comic within comic was illustrated by Flint Henry. ("Dark Genesis!" Detective Comics 622, DC Comic)
