October 7, 1969. 50 years ago, a simple crescendo was the beginning of a seismic shift in popular culture. "Jacksonmania" was born. "I Want You Back" was written by Motown founder Berry Gordy, Jr., Freddie Perren, Alphonso Mizell and Deke Richards, collectively known as The Corporation. The Jackson 5 (Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and an 11-year-old powerhouse named Michael), 5 brothers from Gary, Indiana, a small, steel town, bursted onto the scene, becoming the biggest thing to hit pop music since the Beatles 5 years prior. The J5 marked the end of an era, as they were the last act to be molded in Berry Gordy's image, also signaling the transition from Detroit to Los Angeles. The new decade would see artists such as Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder assert more creative control of their careers. "I Want You Back" was the lone single released from the debut LP, Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5, released in December. It was also the first of four consecutive singles to reach the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 ("I Want You Back", "ABC", "The Love You Save" and "I'll Be There"), making the J5 the first and only act to achieve that feat. "I Want You Back" is universally acknowledged as one of the greatest songs of all time. Rolling Stone listed it as No. 121 on its 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list in 2011. In 2006, Pitchfork named it the 2nd greatest song of the 1960s. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. A perfect record if there every was one. #Detroit #Jackson5 #BerryGordyJr #FreddiePerren #AlphonsoMizell #DekeRichards #MotownRecords #Motown60 #MotownDidItFirst #WestGrandBoulevard https://www.instagram.com/p/B3X3LXRFM_L/?igshid=i99iw49f2ok
