@dc-oc-week Day 7: Family
After getting married to Gus, Oswald decides to bring back the old family tradition of getting a portrait done, except he opts for just a photo this time instead of a painting. Not only does this portrait go up on the wall with the others in Cobblepot Manor, but Oswald keeps a smaller version on his desk at the Iceberg Lounge. He loves his family so much, so he likes keeping the photo around.
Originally I was going to draw a bunch of portraits, but then I couldn’t be bothered so I just drew the one instead. I like to think that there’s portraits of Oswald and Frederick throughout the years on the walls of Cobblepot Manor. He would’ve gotten another one done after Edward joined his and Gus’ relationship, but Fred wouldn’t be in that one as he was busy on the day they took it.
Also, this is the first time I’ve properly drawn Frederick (hence the concept art on the right). He’s Oswald’s trans son that Oswald had when he was 23. Oswald loves his son so much, even if he didn’t get to be in Frederick’s life for a chunk of his childhood. He tries to show his son that he cares as best as he can. Frederick also takes over the Iceberg Lounge when Oswald and Gus retire.
I didn’t finish Day 2 in time 😭 I’ll finish it and post it after the event tho since I do like what I have so far. But anyway:
@dc-oc-week Day 3: Childhood
Originally, I was gonna draw something but then I had zero ideas and ran out of time, so I’ll just ramble instead. Thought I’d post it here too despite this not being my usual type of post. Here’s how my favourite DC OC’s childhoods went:
NOTE: Forrest Jr had a pretty messed up childhood, thanks to his father being manipulative and abusive. Fletcher’s parents were also neglectful and emotionally abusive. The others had pretty good childhoods though.
Gus: Gus grew up poor in Crown Point, Gotham City, with his parents and his younger brother. Gus and his brother were the best of friends, and they’d spend hours upon hours playing pretend together or playing with what little toys they had. They didn’t mind the lack of money as it never really affected them all that much. They were far too busy in their own world to notice. Gus looks back on his childhood fondly, and he often misses those days of innocence.
Felix: Felix grew up in the south of England (I haven’t decided exactly where lol) with his parents and younger brother. He got on very well with his brother despite the arguments they’d often have. Felix looks back fondly on his childhood, minus the one dark stain that affects those memories. The night his brother was murdered haunts Felix into his adulthood. After all, he was the one that suggested they stay out later despite his brother wanting to go home. If he had just listened to his brother, then maybe he’d still be alive…
Forrest Jr: Forrest Jr’s childhood had a lot of ups and downs. For the first 5 years of his life, Jr lived with both his parents. They ended up arguing a lot over Jr, mainly because Forrest Sr wanted to raise Jr to become like him while Brooke wanted Jr to just live a normal life. Sr and Brooke broke up when Jr was 5, and Brooke took Jr with her. Living with his mother was the best time of Forrest Jr’s childhood. Brooke cared deeply for Jr and tried to give him the best childhood she could. But everything went downhill again when Forrest Jr turned 8 years old. His father kidnapped him and forced Jr to live with him. Eventually, (when Jr was 14) Brooke managed to get Jr back, but he had been changed by his father’s treatment of him. He had developed an addiction to drugs and kept going back to Sr despite his mother’s warnings. This was one of the ways Sr manipulated his son to stay by his side. Forrest Jr looks back on his childhood with bitterness and contempt. Everything his father did spoils the positive memories of the times with his mother, although Jr does try to focus on those when he’s feeling down.
Frederick: Frederick had a pretty positive childhood despite his father being a villain. He mainly stayed with his mother at first, but Oswald did sometimes offer to take care of him. Oz loved Frederick dearly, even if he was often too busy to really be around. On the days where he did take care of Fred, he made sure to try and keep things positive, even if work did get in the way. When Frederick was 14, he decided to stay with his dad for a couple of years. Oswald was often preoccupied during this time, but he always listened to his son if he needed him. He wasn’t a bad father, he was just a bit absent at times. Fred moved back into his mother’s house at the age of 17 as it was safer and more convenient for him to do so. He still kept in contact with his father regardless. Overall, Frederick looks back on his childhood fondly, and he still makes sure to keep in contact with his parents.
Fletcher: Fletcher had a complicated childhood. He grew up in a big family with his parents and his four siblings. He had an older sister and brother, and two younger sisters. Fletcher often went unnoticed by his parents as they thought he was mature enough to be independent. This led to a strain on their relationship as Fletcher wanted his parents’ attention but never seemed to truly get it. He would sometimes get along with his mother and other times despise her as she kept trying to blame him for her problems while claiming that she loved him. This caused Fletcher to have many complicated feelings that he didn’t know how to handle, and he spent his teenage years severely depressed. He became a vigilante at way too young an age (15) without any experience or anyone to teach him. He was far too reckless and didn’t care much for what happened to him. Over the years, he did learn how to be a better vigilante and how to not get as badly injured, but he was still far too reckless. Fletcher looks back on his childhood with contempt.
Puffin!!
Another character for the Warrior Cats AU. This is Lizardstalk and Penguin’s adopted son. He’s based on my DC OC, Frederick, who is Oswald’s son. I’ve never talked about Fred before, but I do plan on maybe drawing him at some point. I just need to decide exactly how I want him to look.
Anyway, Puffin is just a baby (literally, he’s 6 months old).
