the cursed amulet is whispering in my ear that I should talk about my Batman OC, so I'm gonna do it. She's the dangerous crow girl whose job it is to destroy plastic and I'm only kind of joking.
Dr. Alexia 'Lex' Heathstrong (35), alias 'Rook', is a professor of biology (specializing in ornithology, especially corvids) at Gotham University. Her pet crows, Asimov and Bradbury, are of no help at all during the chess tournaments she competes in, and she has an almost violent and somewhat flirtatious chess.com rivalry with a user named Enigma_Cipher (wow, wonder who that is!).
Her friend and roommate, Dr. Pamela Isley, encourages her to turn her work towards the ecological rather than the behavioral biology she currently works in (yes, including destroying plastic). Her students consider her a hardass (because she is one), her infatuation with coworker Dr. Jonathan Crane is completely unrequited and slightly pathetic, she's a terrible cook, and about 60% of the people who know her think she's a frigid bitch.
Edward Nashton, forensic scientist at the GCPD, moonlights as an adjunct at Gotham U and teaches his one forensics class a semester next door to hers. He tends to interrupt her classes to ask riddles, because as much as she complains, she always tries to solve them and he likes the attention (notably, he does not know that she's his chess.com enemy).
Asimov and Bradbury are trained to attack on command and also bring her shiny trinkets they steal throughout the day, as they fly free through Gotham during the day and come back to her apartment at night.
Her villain persona is corvid and chess themed, often committing crimes that follow the theme of chess situations, such as kidnapping an Austrian diplomat for the Vienna opening or holding city hall hostage as the Queen's Gambit. If you asked her why she does it, she would probably tell you 'I have a PhD in Gotham; it's actually a contractual agreement that I become a villain'.
